Renata is the Head of Corn Strategy for LATAM and Asia at Bayer Crop Science. She and her team won the Otto Bayer Medal for a treatment to control the billion-dollar corn rootworm. This insect is called the billion-dollar bug because it costs farmers about $1 billion in lost production each year as the larvae feed on corn roots. These insects are very smart and can develop resistance. Renata and her team developed a new way to protect corn roots from these larvae using a completely new technology called RNA interference, or RNAi. Reflecting on the journey of our Crop Science interns. During the Summer Internship Program 2024, our Crop Science interns in Lahore had an opportunity to immerse themselves in the daily operations of the company. They connected with channel partners, participated in field visits, and experienced how our CSR program supports initiatives for under-served communities by visiting a partner NGO, The Indus Hospital. Through their projects, these interns not only gained valuable real-world experience but also contributed to our mission of "Health for all, hunger for none." #HealthForAll #HungerForNone #BayerPakistan

Every day, thousands of #TeamBayer scientists work on tackling disease, enhancing agricultural sustainability, and discovering innovative approaches to improve human health—all driven by our mission: #HealthForAll, #HungerForNone. With a mission that big, it’s 100% about innovation and 0% about who’s at the top of the org chart. That’s why our CEO Bill Anderson recently sat down with four scientists to learn more about the novel ways they are pursuing our mission with innovative partners Asklepios BioPharmaceutical, Inc. (AskBio) and BlueRock Therapeutics. We’re calling the series “Science is Boss” – and we’ll be sharing the highlights of their conversations here over the coming weeks. In episode one: Ruth R. Shah, a trained cell and molecular biologist, delves into the potential of cell and gene therapies to fundamentally change the way diseases like Parkinson’s are treated. Check it out!

Did you know that every year, we consume over 100 billion bananas, with approximately 400 million people relying on them for their food security? Yet, banana plantations worldwide are under threat from Tropical Race 4 (TR4), a strain of fungus that causes wilting and death in banana plants. Once an outbreak occurs, containment becomes nearly impossible. For us, #HealthForAll, #HungerForNone begins right in the fields. This is why, in collaboration with our partners, we are dedicated to developing a sustainable future for banana growers. #TeamBayer #RegenerativeAgriculture

Healthy soil is a big win for our planet - and can be a win for farmers as well. Cover crops, crops planted in between seasons, protect soils when no other crop is growing. CoverCress is a harvestable low-input winter oilseed crop that shows potential to help store carbon in the soil, while improving soil health by increasing organic matter content and contributing to healthy field microbiomes. #RegenerativeAgricultrue

Farmers are the backbone of their local communities’ food security. In fact, smallholder farmers produce 1/3 of all food worldwide and more than 50% of the food consumed in low-and middle-income countries. But this is a tough row to hoe alone. Many smallholder farmers find themselves lacking the local services or support they need that could enable them to produce a fruitful harvest and support themselves and their family. That is where someone like Jose comes in. Jose knows these challenges firsthand because he lived it himself. But now he is in a position to share knowledge and best practices and provide services at a local level. He witnesses the huge positive impact this type of initiative has on smallholder farmers in his region of Honduras. At Bayer, we want to live up to our role and responsibility as an impact generator. And we are redesigning the company to focus on what’s essential for our mission: #HealthForAll #HungerForNone. Thank you, Jose – and thank you to all the farmers around the world who are playing an important role in making this happen.

It's easy to say that you learn from your mistakes. In reality, it is far from easy to accept failure as an opportunity to improve. But let's not forget that mistakes really do help us move forward. Did you know that many inventions came about because something didn't work out? That's why Thomas Dorfner, Health Manager at Bayer, gives us his personal tips on how not to let failures get you down in your daily work, but to always find something positive to take away from them. What is your tip for dealing with mistakes at work? #BayerCareer #BeBayer #TeamBayer

A recent U.N. report warns that 582 million people could be chronically undernourished by 2030, threatening the United Nations' goal of ending global hunger by the end of the decade. Food and nutrition security has become a topic of concern for all of us because global food production is challenged by #ClimateChange, geopolitical tensions, economic volatility and fragile food systems. These challenges put farmers under enormous pressure to produce more nutritious food for more people with less environmental impact and less resources. At Bayer, we believe the food and nutrition security crisis can be solved through innovation, collaboration, and scale. #HealthForAll #HungerForNone
