My household has multiple Quest 2 devices. We use casting to Chromecast devices all the time. I personally use it to stream my Quest gameplay on Twitch and Facebook Live and have evangelized at least ten headset sales this way. My kids also use it to show off VR when their friends come over.

Your alternative solutions of casting to a mobile device or browser aren't good enough. This change has severely impacted our user experiences in a very negative way. We will not spend another dime on your platform or recommend your products unless this feature comes back.

I literally cannot cast to my TV anymore without Chromecast. It worked so well and was so simple. Why remove it? Now I need to cast to my laptop and then connect it to the TV via an HDMI cable, which is frankly ridiculous.

The elimination of this extensively utilized feature is worrisome and raises legal concerns. It poses a significant issue when linked to other hardware investments. It's comparable to abruptly discontinuing compatibility with previously purchased pro controllers.

I can't help but think that the reason you were experiencing casting issues Meta, is due to you Wi-Fi drivers still not working as intended and are still unstable. Removing functionality just because you can't figure out how to fix it is NOT a solution.

I would advice you to bring it back promptly.

@tfosseli you have a good point about the controllers. I was at one point thinking about getting the pro controllers for better tracking. But now that's right out the window as there's no way to know they will keep working.

Fú¢k that.

Maybe slightly leaning into the conspiracy theory realm, but Google announced today at CES that they're upgrading Chromecasts features, one prominent feature being TikTok functionality. TikTok being owned by ByteDance, the makers of Pico VR. As a developer who's done some recent work in VR, I've had two Pico headsets on my desk this past year and using Chromecast was a breeze.

We restored casting from Meta Quest headsets to Chromecast. Note that this feature is not fully supported and may not work properly for everyone. We recommend casting to a phone or computer instead for the best experience. Thanks for helping us make Meta Quest better for everyone and we will continue exploring ways to improve the casting experience going forward.

This is good news, but I wanna make sure this gets asked:

It wasn't put back, but intentionally made worse, right? It was put back exactly like it was before, right? I need to see these words.

Bravo @Ryanality . This is welcome news!

Hope Meta has learned a lesson here.

Good point @PIPXIll

For the record, Chromecast and Quest 3 worked flawlessly until the decapitation update. I certainly hope it continues to do so after this restoration. Would hate to see an intentional degradation of functionality added in order for Meta to create stress where there was none. I'll save my full cynicism for after I've tested it later today.

@Ryanality I’ll need to see it to believe it. Have to purchase a Chromecast (again) to make sure casting is back on again.

but other than that… hope you guys at Meta HQ learned a valuable lesson here.

@PIPXIll Exactly. Now I have to purchase Chromecast again, just to make sure it’s working flawlessly as it should be before they took it away
