Another ship and another crew successfully trained. We provided them with our standard training program as per SMT Shipping procedures in preparation for the intensive shipyard work ahead. The demanding nature of shipyard operations, with frequent location changes and high-intensity tasks, creates unique working conditions. Crew members are continuously exposed to various hazards not typically encountered during regular ship operations. Reinforcing procedures and reminding the team of safe work practices always proves beneficial. A big thank you to the crew for their dedication, participation in the training, and hard work over the past several days. Stay Safe! #SMTshipping #safetycomesfirst #shipyardworks #safeworkiconditions

  • Saturday 8 March was International Women’s Day. Since 1911, this day has celebrated women’s achievements and raised awareness about gender parity. In 2025 the UN’s theme for the day was “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”. At SMT Shipping we celebrate this day with our female colleagues. We support our global workforce by providing a safe and secure working environment, investing in individual development, and building a diverse and inclusive organisation. The shipping world provides many opportunities for women both ashore and at sea and we salute the work of WISTA which champions the role of women in the maritime industry. We send our best wishes to our female colleagues in all sectors of SMT and to those around world celebrating International Women’s Day. #SMTShipping #maritime #InternationalWomensDay #UN #WISTA

SMT Shipping is collaborating with Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) to explore shipping options for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI).   Interest in DRI is increasing because of reduced C02 emissions during production. However, shipping DRI requires specialised skills. MOL, which has delivered iron ore to the steel industry for many years, recognised that SMT possess the necessary experience to ship this cargo.   We look forward to this partnership with MOL which will reduce CO2 levels and contribute to SMT’s environmental initiatives and Towards Zer0 program. Confined space entry is one of our standard training programs for ship visits. Onboard confined spaces—such as tanks, voids, and cargo holds—pose serious risks, including oxygen deficiency, toxic gases, and entrapment. Without proper training and awareness, these hazards can lead to life-threatening incidents. Maritime professionals must be well-versed in risk assessment, atmospheric testing, emergency procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. A well-trained crew not only ensures compliance with company procedures and safety regulations but also safeguards the well-being of everyone on board. Another ship crew trained! Stay Safe! #SMTshipping #SMTsafetytrainingteam #safetycomesfirst
