🌍 Exploring Berlin: Site visits & discussions on metropolitan cooperation During the #MECOG-CE partners' meeting in #Berlin (Feb 26-28, 2025), discussions on new #solutions for metropolitan challenges and the #Strategy for strengthening #metropolitan #cooperation were enriched by inspiring site visits across the city. • ✈️ Tempelhof Airport & THF Tower – Partners explored the iconic airfield, learning about its transformation, historical and architectural significance. • 🏙️ Berlin City Models – A fascinating look at the city’s past, present, and future through detailed urban planning models. • 🌊 Evening Walk Along the Spree River – A journey through Berlin’s riverfront offered an opportunity to observe its urban development. 🚀 New solutions & strategy for stronger metropolitan cooperation: MECOG-CE partners met in #Berlin 🌍 On February 26-28, 2025, MECOG-CE project partners gathered in Berlin to evaluate the #pilot #actions results, jointly discuss the new #solutions for metropolitan challenges and the first version of the #Strategy for strengthening #metropolitan cooperation and governance. 🏙️✨ Hosted by the Joint Spatial Planning Department Berlin-Brandenburg, the event included: 📊 presentations on PILOT ACTIONS: Over the past year, MECOG-CE partners tested and adapted the selected best practices through pilot actions to tackle key metropolitan challenges like mobility 🚉, food 🌱, governance 🏛️, spatial planning 📌, and economic development 💰. 🛠️ workshop on proposals of five NEW SOLUTIONS: Building on the pilot actions results, partners developed five new solutions that enhance the selected tools. The solutions deal with local food production 🌾, public transport coordination 🚌, prototyping metropolitan solutions 🏗️, and strengthening metropolitan cooperation through stakeholder engagement in strategic planning via surveying and workshops. 📌 first look at the STRATEGY: Partners discussed its structure and the form of the action plans aimed at enhancing cooperation and governance across metropolitan areas. 🔎 Strengthening metropolitan governance through participation in Berlin-Brandenburg 🏙️🤝 The Capital Region #Berlin-Brandenburg has a long history of joint spatial planning, nearly 30 years! While this cooperation has been largely successful, new challenges call for a more #participatory #planning process. 👥💡 To strengthen stakeholder engagement, a pilot action has introduced two interactive workshops inspired by the best practice from the City of #Warsaw: 🔹 „White Spots” workshop – Bringing stakeholders from various sectors  together to identify overlooked cooperation opportunities and turn them into concrete actions. 🔹 Governance workshop – Exploring new ways to involve civil society, businesses, and research in a more effective decision-making. Participation transforms Ostrava & Stuttgart metropolitan territories! 🏙️🤝 🔎 How can #metropolitan communities shape the future of their areas? Our pilot action tested a #participatory approach in the Ostrava Metropolitan Area and the Stuttgart Region, applying the Prototyping Academies tool developed by GZM. Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia. 🏡 OSTRAVA: Tackled social and spatial challenges in Dubina, one of the city’s largest housing estates. Key results: ✔️ Collection of data to support revitalization, ✔️ Initiation of an Action Plan for 2025, ✔️ Formation of a community of local & metropolitan stakeholders, ✔️ Creation of transferable know-how for housing estates in other cities. 🏭 STUTTGART: Explored a participatory approach in the process of transforming an existing industrial area into a resilient & sustainable business park. Key outcomes: ✔️ Adaptation of the Prototyping Academies tool to industrial transformation, ✔️ Identification of stakeholders & establishment of a timeline for the process, ✔️ Development of guidelines for applying the approach to other sites. As part of a pilot action inspired by Turin's innovative Food Districts model, this initiative marks an important move toward sustainable local food systems and stronger #metropolitan #governance. Happy New Year from the MECOG-CE Team! As we step into 2025, we’re proud to look back on the key milestones we achieved in 2024: ✅ Finalized the Common Metropolitan Vision advocating for stronger metropolitan areas. ✅ Explored 76 best practices and metropolitan governance systems of partner metropolitan areas. ✅ Formed five study clusters focusing on learning about eight metropolitan tools. ✅ Launched five pilot actions enhancing metropolitan cooperation and governance. ✨ Stay tuned, more details will come soon! ✅ Raised awareness about the project and its outcomes which can be found on our website 👉 https://1url.cz/v10Ng. ✅ Submitted all reports on time with good financial performance. ✅ Met in #Stuttgart and #Ostrava and during several study visits.
