The Judicial Academy of the Slovak Republic -JASR (https://lnkd.in/e7_5wceJ) in partnership with the Academy of European Law (ERA) organised an international training session ‘𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲’ in Omsenie (SK), on 19-21 August 2024. In total, 16 participants from the judiciaries of Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary took part in this 2.5-day programme under the leadership of 2 ERA speakers, Irene Kiebert and Stephen Dillon-Weston. You will be given the opportunity to see the building of the Court of Appeal of the UPC and meet Judge Ingeborg Simonsson.   Florence Hartmann-Vareilles, ERA’s course organiser, says:   “As ERA is located close to the UPC, the visit to the UPC Court of Appeal is a unique feature of this course. As far as I know, no other legal training institution offers this opportunity. Prior to this visit, participants will visit the Court of Justice of the European Union, during which they will be introduced to the functions and specificities of the highest EU Court. In this way, they will be able to better understand the differences and links between these two different jurisdictions which both play an important role in the harmonisation of patent law in the European Union".   📚 Since 2022, ERA has been cooperating with the Maastricht University to offer the European Patent Litigation Certification. This allows European patent attorneys to represent parties before the Unified Patent Court. The course is also open to patent lawyers who want to brush up on their knowledge of the UPC rules of procedure and put them into practice with case scenarios. 💻 The course will be delivered over nine months through self-learning activities and a series of monthly two-hour evening online training sessions, as well as two weeks of face-to-face mock trials training in Trier.
