I am very excited about the upcoming conference of the European Forum of the Legal Professions. We have a record number of participants; both the conference venue and the virtual room seem to be fully booked. 👩🏻⚖️👨🏼⚖️⚖️ Together with the invited experts and the representatives of the legal professions (judges, prosecutors, court officers, bailiffs, lawyers in private practice), we are seeking smart solutions to provide better access to justice for all, enhance the overall efficiency of the justice system, in particular the speed of trials, and discuss innovations that lead the way to improve the quality of justice and litigation. 👋 See you on Friday! That was the topic I was invited to address at the High Level Expert Conference “Enhancing European Legal Competitiveness – AI and Advanced Technologies for Better Justice and Legislation” organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, in collaboration with the European Commission. I was honoured to share a panel with Judge Antonella Ciriello and Judge László Kiss. Great organisation and very knowledgeable audience. I learned a lot during these two days about AI solutions developed in different Member States, concrete applications of the AI Act in justice use cases, the use of videoconferencing tools in national justice systems - and last but not least, that AI can solve a Rubik's Cube in 1.2 seconds! Thanks to the organisers for the invitation, to Dirk Staudenmayer for moderating… and to my colleagues at ERA for feeding my thoughts.

Judge at the Supreme Court of Estonia, Controller of procedural guarantees, OLAF; former Director of programmes at Academy of European Law ERA, judge at the European Court of Human Rights 2011-2020
Another presentation and full-time lecture on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which seems to have become topical recently. In times of crisis, ensuring the proper protection of fundamental rights is crucial. This was a highly professional advanced training course on EU law organised by the Academy of European Law (ERA). The target audience was judges and prosecutors from the Baltic States, with specific topics on preliminary rulings by the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the rule of law. The audience showed real interest, focus and activity in the working groups, which I also helped to chair, on practical tasks. I have great respect for ERA, one of the best providers of continuing legal education/advanced training in Europe - the courses they offer are thoroughly prepared and of very high quality. I have worked with ERA for more than 20 years, as trainee, trainer, director of ERA programmes and deputy director of the whole institution. I currently continue to serve on the ERA Board of Trustees and on the Board of the Friends of ERA. In the photo, I am training judges and prosecutors in Tallinn, together with Senior Lecturer Filippo Fontanelli (University of Edinburgh) and Karolina Rokicka, Head of ERA's Public Law Section.

I was honoured to be invited by the Academy of European Law ERA to participate in an insightful conference held on October 21st-22nd, 2024, titled “The Legal Professions and the Media: Worst Friends or Best Enemies?”. I would like to extend my gratitude to ERA, which organized this conference in collaboration with the Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Special thanks to the director of ERA, Mr Jean-Philippe Rageade, for organizing this conference. I have come to know Mr Rageade as someone who has an excellent understanding of the dynamics of the Western Balkan region. With his work, he is genuinely helping us accelerate our path toward joining the European Union. I am deeply grateful to him for that. My sincere appreciation also goes to Mrs. Berina—Ina Alispahić (Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training BIH) and Mr Viktor Vadász (Deputy Director of ERA) for the phenomenal organization of this conference. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the distinguished expert speakers, keynote presenters, and panellists who thoroughly explored this important topic.
