#ALDInews | ALDI Nord expands with a new distribution centre in Portugal 🚚   ALDI Nord strengthens its presence in Northern Portugal with the opening of a new distribution centre in Valongo – a key milestone for ALDI Portugal and our expansion strategy.   🌱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 With the capacity to supply over 70 stores, this new distribution centre will support our expansion in Portugal while reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and innovation. By enhancing logistical efficiency and optimising transport routes, the new distribution centre helps to reduce travel distances, cutting CO2 emissions by more than two tonnes annually. This not only improves cost efficiency, but also allows us to continue offering high-quality products at the best possible prices. 🛒𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 The distribution centre spans a total area of 16,000m2, including 1,700m2 of positive refrigeration for optimal freshness of products. “With the increasing number of ALDI stores in Northern and Central Portugal, this new infrastructure is crucial for accelerating our growth and ensuring faster, fresher products to our customers”, says André Fradinho, Managing Director Supply Chain Management at ALDI Portugal. #ALDIpower | From software tester in the healthcare sector to future shaper at ALDI Nord  Meet the amazing Stanisław Ciesielka from our ALDI Tech Hub in Poland and follow his journey in our latest episode of “Success Stories”:  𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐰, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐋𝐃𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧? "Before joining ALDI, I worked as software tester in healthcare and in the banking industry but nearly two years ago, it became time to try something new – a new sector and a multinational company: the ALDI Tech Hub in Krakow. Right now, I’m working as Software Test Engineer in the Development Solutions team." 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲? "When I started, the variety of new technologies was a challenge for sure as well as the quest of exploring the origins and the reporting of data. #ALDIresponsible | The impact of photovoltaic systems at ALDI Nord ⚡    At ALDI Nord, photovoltaic (PV) systems play a significant role in our efforts to generate cost-effective energy, conserve natural resources and reduce emissions. Since 2013, we have installed around 1900 PV systems across our store rooftops and distribution centres.     🏠 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 Our PV systems span an impressive 1.3 million square metres – roughly the size of 180 football fields. Together, they generate over 200,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually. This is enough to supply around 60,000 three-person households with electricity for a whole year.    🔋 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆? With refrigeration and freezing equipment constantly running in our stores and distribution centres, energy demands are high. Therefore, we currently use approximately 78 per cent of the solar electricity we produce ourselves through the PV systems. The remainder is fed into the power grid or can be used for our growing charging infrastructure.     🚀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻‘𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲! At ALDI Nord, we are dedicated to expanding our PV systems across Europe, further enhancing our ability to generate cost-effective and resource-efficient energy. #ALDIresponsible | ALDI Nord donates to support young people in Essen   At ALDI Nord, supporting disadvantaged communities is important to us. Therefore, proceeds from last year’s ALDI Nord Christmas market raffle were donated to three special social projects in Essen, Germany:   👉At the Studiobühne Essen, children and young people gain valuable practical theatre education experience, while contributing to integrative district work, and making culture accessible to all. This project was introduced by our colleague Sarah Furgol, who has been involved for many years,   👉The Children's and Family Meal Tables initiative run by Caritas Essen provides free, balanced meals to children and families in need across various districts, along with play, exercise, learning, and counselling services, including nutrition advice. This initiative was recommended by our colleague Anne Noe.   👉 The Kettino children’s circus, an annual event run by volunteers, is a core part of the Kettwig for Children association’s charitable work, offering young people from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to participate in a unique and enriching experience. The project is special to our colleague Melina Müller, who suggested it to us. 💙 A cause close to our heart To further support these three projects, we supplemented our monetary donations with in-kind contributions such as games, painting supplies, healthy snacks and hygiene products from our private label range, ensuring each initiative received the help they need. Additionally, we donated non-cash items such as toys, paint sets, clothing and other products from our non-food range to the day care and family centre in Essen Schonnebeck – the very neighbourhood where ALDI Nord’s journey began over 110 years ago.   A heartfelt thank you to all ALDI Nord employees who supported this initiative with all their #ALDIPower! 🙌 #aldinord #aldinordgroup #donations #community #socialresponsibility
