This week, we had the pleasure of hosting our colleagues from Allectra GmbH at our East Sussex facility. It was a great opportunity to showcase our new manufacturing unit, which is set to open in the coming weeks. This expansion will significantly increase our workshop and production space, allowing for further investment in machines and skilled staff. Over the two days, we engaged in productive discussions focused on enhancing the value we provide to our customers. Our CEO, Bernhard Luckscheiter, also our R&D lead, shared updates on some innovative new products that will be launched in the near future - watch this space... We also had time for an enjoyable dinner in Lewes! #allectra #highvacuum #uhv #vacuumengineering #ukmanufacturing Mario Peli Ute Holters Gilles Rousseau Beatrix Kluge Christian Kindel

Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) components are used in applications that require extremely low pressures, typically below 10⁻10 mbar. Here are some key applications where UHV components are essential: 1. Surface Science and Material Research Application: Studying the atomic structure, chemical composition, and physical properties of surfaces. Why UHV is Needed: To prevent contamination and oxidation, allowing researchers to observe pure surface interactions. 2. Semiconductor Manufacturing Application: Thin film deposition, ion implantation, and etching processes. Why UHV is Needed: Ensures high-purity environments for manufacturing semiconductor wafers, reducing contamination and defects. 3. Particle Accelerators and Physics Research Application: Particle collision experiments and synchrotron light sources. Why UHV is Needed: Reduces scattering and ensures a clear path for particles to travel, ensuring precise experimental conditions. 4. Space Simulation Chambers Application: Simulating the vacuum of space for testing satellites, spacecraft components, and instruments. Why UHV is Needed: Mimics space conditions to test how materials and electronics behave in extremely low-pressure environments. 5. Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy Application: Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Why UHV is Needed: Maintains clean and controlled environments for high-resolution imaging and analysis. 6. Fusion Research (e.g., Tokamaks) Application: Experimental fusion reactors, such as ITER and JET. Why UHV is Needed: Prevents impurities from interfering with plasma reactions, ensuring stable fusion conditions. 7. Vacuum Coating and Deposition Systems Application: Physical vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and sputtering. Why UHV is Needed: Provides a clean environment to deposit thin films with high precision and purity. 8. Mass Spectrometry and Analytical Instruments Application: Analyzing chemical compositions and molecular structures. Why UHV is Needed: Improves sensitivity and accuracy by reducing background noise from contaminants. 9. Cryogenics and Low-Temperature Research Application: Studying superconductors, quantum computing, and low-temperature physics. Why UHV is Needed: Reduces the gas load, preventing condensation and maintaining low temperatures. These applications require UHV components such as flanges, feedthroughs, valves, and wiring to maintain the integrity of the vacuum environment and to ensure that experiments or manufacturing processes can proceed without contamination or interference. Talk with our team today about how Allectra's expertise in UHV technology can support your demanding applications. #allectra #uhv #highvacuum #vacuumengineering

Many of our customers are asking us about the "glue" that we use for our 301-KAPM-series cables to stick the Kapton foil to the underlying wire. They are worried about silicone or other ingredients that may contaminate their chambers. The fact is that there is NO GLUE used! Allectra's 301 KAPM and our previous 311-KAPM-XX-RAD are halogen free and PTFE free. No external adhesive is used to fix the Kapton foil to the underlying wire. Only Kapton is used when manufacturing the wire, no other bonding agent, this process is proprietary to Allectra. Hope that helps! #allectra #highvacuum #uhv #kap301 #synchrotronscience #spacescience

Mario Peli was at the ICAP 2024 Satellite Workshop in Brighton last week. ICAP is one of the most influential international conferences on atomic physics and atomic system-based quantum technology. The workshop brought together ion trappers developing quantum computers, specialists in error correction as applied to ion qubits, and scientists working on quantum computing applications which align with the strenghts of trapped ion platforms. By focusing on the three topical areas of quantum porcessor hardware, error correction strategies and application development, the meeting aimed to accelerate progress towards practical applications of quantum computing. High vacuum (HV) and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) components are essential in quantum computing for maintaining extremely low-pressure environments that are crucial for the proper functioning of quantum devices. These components help in achieving and maintaining the required vacuum levels to minimize interference from air molecules, which can affect the quantum states and coherence times of qubits. Please contact a member of the team for more information on some of our HV and UHV components commonly used in quantum computing including Titanium to Aluminium Flanges, Electrical Feedthroughs, Optical Feedthroughs and Viewports. #allectra #highvacuum #uhv #physics #quantumcomputing #ICAP2024
