Airports are like small cities. In addition to technology and architecture, there are always organizational, financial, social, and political dimensions to consider. And like a city, an airport needs to be able to develop efficiently, respond to change and expand. We believe that clearly structured and flexible development planning is the key to successful long-term airport infrastructure. With up to 30 years of experience, our experts have extensive know-how in all aspects of airport development and support our clients in finding the right solutions for the future of their airports. Clients include both, private investors as well as publicly operated airports. By combining our long-standing experience with our passion for strategic thinking, we have successfully worked on over 114 projects in more than 35 countries over the past 3 decades. LONG-STANDING EXPERIENCE AND A FAR-REACHING NETWORK IN THE SECTOR With a core team of approximately 20 specialists, including architects and engineers as well as management, business and financial experts, amd.sigma worked on projects for almost every German airport as well as major international airports in Europe, the Middle East and South America.   • ++++ Lange unerwartete Wende: Flughafen Essen/Mülheim bleibt – und startet in eine klimafreundliche Zukunft! ++++   In einer vor wenigen Monaten noch unvorstellbaren Entscheidung hat der Stadtrat Essen beschlossen, den Flughafen Essen/Mülheim NICHT zu schließen, sondern ihn bis über 2034 hinaus weiterzubetreiben!   Diese Entscheidung widerspricht den jahrzehntelangen Plänen, den Flugbetrieb aufgrund von Rentabilitäts-Herausforderungen und finanziellen Defiziten einzustellen. Trotz dieser Herausforderungen hat sich in der letzten Zeit eine Entwicklung hin zu nachhaltigen Konzepten, insbesondere für elektrisches Fliegen, abgezeichnet, die schließlich zur Entscheidung geführt hat, den Flughafen weiterzuführen und zu modernisieren.   Dank der intensiven Zusammenarbeit des Flughafens und amd.sigma wurde eine fundierte Potenzialanalyse und Bewertung der bestehenden Infrastruktur durchgeführt. Es konnte eine solide Grundlage für diese Entscheidung geschaffen werden. Wir sind stolz darauf, dass unsere Expertise entscheidend dazu beigetragen hat, eine nachhaltige und zukunftsweisende Lösung für den Flughafen zu finden.   Besonders erfreulich ist, dass u.a. unsere Konzepte für das elektrische Fliegen den Ausschlag gegeben haben. Dies ist nicht nur ein großer Erfolg für den Standort Essen/Mülheim, sondern auch ein Prototyp für die Entwicklung aller regionalen Flughäfen in Deutschland. Wir sind begeistert, diesen wegweisenden Weg aktiv mitgestalten zu dürfen! 🚀✈ In a decision that would have been unimaginable just a few months ago, the Essen City Council has decided NOT to close Essen/Mülheim Airport, but to continue its operations beyond 2034. This decision goes against long-standing plans to cease flight operations due to profitability challenges and financial deficits. Despite these hurdles, recent developments in sustainable concepts, particularly for electric aviation, have led to the decision to keep the airport operational and modernize it. Thanks to the intensive collaboration between the airport and amd.sigma, a thorough potential analysis and evaluation of the existing infrastructure were conducted, providing a solid foundation for this decision. We are proud that our expertise played a key role in helping to find a sustainable and forward-thinking solution for the airport. What is particularly gratifying is that our concepts for electric aviation, among other things, were decisive in this outcome. This is not only a major success for the Essen/Mülheim location but also serves as a prototype for the development of all regional airports in Germany.     Stellt euch vor, ihr fliegt mit einem Luft-Shuttle in kürzester Zeit von Ingolstadt nach München und landet auf einem GOLDBECK-Parkhaus. 🚁 Was nach weit entfernter Zukunftsvision klingt, ist Realität – zumindest digital. 💻😉 Wir freuen uns, bei der von Airbus ins Leben gerufenen #AirMobilityInitiative dabei zu sein. Sie forscht gemeinsam mit amd.sigma - strategic airport development GmbH und Munich Airport International seit einem Jahr an der Revolution des Stadt- und Flughafenverkehrs. Ein Schlüsselelement hierbei sind #Vertiports. Sie ermöglichen das senkrechte Starten und Landen von eVTOLs. Diese wiederum könnten als Shuttle-Verbindungen zwischen einzelnen Großstädten eingesetzt werden. Am Beispiel unserer GOLDBECK-Parkhäuser zeigte der Forschungsverbund auf, wie diese Vision Realität werden kann. Unsere Parkhäuser in Systembauweise sorgen dafür, dass die Infrastruktur für den Lufttransport effizient genutzt werden kann. Auch hilft sie dabei, Baukosten zu reduzieren. Der Mehrwert Nr. 1 ist aber, dass unsere Systemparkhäuser skalierbar sind. So könnten Vertiports fester Bestandteil unserer Parkhauskonzepte werden.     +++ New Horizons for #AdvancedAirMobility (AAM): Vertiports on Parking Structures +++ AAM promises a revolution in urban and airport-related transport. A key element of this development are #Vertiports to enable vertical take-off and landings of eVTOLs. However, available land in urban and terminal-proximate areas is scarce and expensive.   An innovative solution lies in integrating Vertiports on parking structures. This concept offers several advantages:   Efficient Use of Infrastructure: Parking structures are already a profitable source of revenue. The land cost for the Vertiport is therefore only a fraction of the total.   Temporal Flexibility: The functionality of the Vertiport can be adjusted flexibly, making the investment less risky.   Reduced Construction Costs and Accelerated Implementation: With GOLDBECK, Europe’s number one in serial construction, we have a partner that enables us to implement construction reliably and cost-effectively.   Sustainability and Efficiency: The use of prefabricated modular components meets modern sustainability standards and ensures fast, safe construction.   Scalability and Risk Management: Vertiports could be realized on any new parking structure and at virtually any location, offering high scalability and manageable financial risks.   Through an intensive 1-yr research and planning approach in the frame of the #AirMobilityInitative lead by Airbusamd.sigma and Munich Airport International have achieved an impressive result within a year. The key outcome is: A hybrid building for Vertiport-parking and office use can indeed be built serially! it even creates a new asset-class of building typology.   This insight opens new doors for urban mobility. The discussion focused on the latest developments in Vaeridion's battery-electric regional aircraft, the Microliner, and explored potential for cooperation between the two organizations. This marks a significant step towards advancing sustainable aviation solutions and fostering innovative collaborations in the field. VÆRIDION based in Munich and focused on accelerating the green transformation of aviation by developing a battery-electric regional aircraft known as the Microliner. This aircraft aims to transport up to nine passengers over distances of up to 500 kilometers using a highly energy-efficient design inspired by gliders, with integrated wing batteries to optimize structural weight and range. Vaeridion's approach includes innovative electric propulsion systems with redundant engines to ensure safety and continuous operation even in case of an engine failure. The company plans to have its aircraft certified and operational 2027, aiming to enhance regional connectivity by utilizing existing airfields and reducing travel times significantly.   • 🌐Excited to share about our visit to ILA Berlin - Pioneering Aerospace 🛩️ We had the great opportunity today to attend one of the premier events in the aviation industry, organized by Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH and BDLI Bundesverband der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie e.V. One of the today’s highlights was the panel discussion on sustainable aviation “From Berlin to Aerospace: High-tech from the capital region,” held at the ILA Future Lab Stage in Hall 2. The insights shared were truly eye-opening and inspiring. A special shoutout to Marielies Becker for the great organization and to the brilliant Dr. Johanna Sonnenburg, whose presentation on “Grün Fliegen”, cooperation with amd.sigma - strategic airport development GmbH was both engaging and forward-thinking. Her discussion on the synergy of eVTOLs and electric airplanes (eSTOLs) at regional airports, coupled with the concept of a highly optimized and sustainable airport terminal, was particularly noteworthy. We are also working on employing existing historic signature buildings, like THF Airport, as well as the many existing regional airports around Berlin in the concept. Nothing is more sustainable and elegant than existing buildings and smart re-use.
