Automation in solder paste printing: more than eight hours of operator-free operation 💡 Solder paste printing is the first process in the SMT production line - and the most challenging. Those who optimize effectively here can leave the competition behind in the race for maximum efficiency and quality. In addition to precision and process stability, operator-free operation also counts. With its DEK TQ printers, the market and technology leader ASMPT demonstrates what is state of the art today in all these disciplines. ASMPT has consistently used open interfaces and numerous technical innovations to relieve scarce specialists of superfluous routine tasks. DEK TQ printers, in conjunction with ASMPT's Process Lens SPI system, can automatically perform continuous offset correction in a direct closed-loop optimization based on the measured values. The efficient high-speed under stencil cleaning (USC) with its own linear drives not only works up to 50 percent faster than conventional systems. A 22 meter long fabric roll and a 7 liter cleaning agent supply ensure that the cleaning system can run for an entire shift without an operator. Manual intervention is also reduced by the automatic and flexible support for setting pins with verification of the pin position and height. Two pin sizes (diameter 4 and 12 millimeters) are available ready in a 30-pin magazine in the DEK TQ; in the DEK TQ L, the magazine holds up to 60 pins due to the larger PCBs. Paste management has been fully automated. A dual access cover also enables solder paste cartridges to be exchanged during production. A laterally sliding cover section allows full access to the dispenser unit, while the cover over the rest of the printer remains closed and the machine can continue to work. I'm Gabriel, and I lead a team of SAP experts in Asia, supporting our Supply Chain Management (SCM) team. We focus on streamlining processes across departments to boost productivity and ensure alignment on key projects. My team also manages User Acceptance Testing for SAP initiatives, coordinating requirements and dependencies across departments. 💬 What have been your highlights since joining ASMPT nine years ago? There’s never been a dull moment! I began as a System Acceptance Engineer for DEK printers and supported alternative energy projects in Singapore. Later, I moved into Operations as a Team Lead, implementing line solutions that increased productivity at our manufacturing site. Four years ago, I joined the Process Digitalisation department, where I am today. Along the way, I’ve built lifelong friendships with colleagues and mentors. 💬 How has ASMPT supported your professional growth and development? ASMPT continuously provides growth opportunities. Highlights from our first-ever UniTeam Teambuilding event in Singapore 🌟 On October 18, our ASMPT Singapore teams from SMT, SEMI, and Corporate convened for the first-ever UniTeam Teambuilding event at Sentosa Island in Singapore. Over 800 colleagues participated in structured challenges designed in an ‘Amazing Race’ format on the beach. Participants were organized into mixed groups to navigate stations that tested our skills, problem-solving abilities, and alignment with our POWER values. With transport, refreshments, and official time off provided, staff could focus entirely on the day’s activities, leading to high levels of engagement. This event served as a significant opportunity to break down silos and enhance collaboration across all segments of our organization. It allowed us to learn from each other’s strengths and reinforced our commitment to the ONE ASMPT spirit. Solder paste printing: maximum efficiency and flexibility in the smallest space 🌟 Solder paste printing is the starting point of every SMT production line and simultaneously one of the most demanding processes. It is responsible for the majority of errors in the line. Optimizing this step is crucial when competing for high-quality orders from demanding customers, such as those in the automotive industry. With its DEK TQ printer platform, #ASMPT demonstrates how powerful technology and compact design can work together to deliver top performance. With an alignment accuracy of ±12.5 micrometers at 2 Cmk and a wet print accuracy of ±17.0 micrometers at 2 Cpk, ASMPT's DEK TQ printer platform is one of the most precise solder paste printers on the market. The manufacturer leaves nothing to chance: the precision of each individual machine is measured externally before delivery and confirmed with a certificate. The DEK TQ L offers electronics manufacturers new degrees of freedom when printing PCBs up to a size of 600 x 510 millimeters. The printable area is 560 x 510 millimeters. Despite the large format, the maximum core cycle time is only 6.5 seconds. The DEK TQ with a smaller print area even achieves 5 seconds. A great deal of optimization work has gone into this excellent benchmark result: all DEK TQ printers work with high-precision linear drives, a new off-belt printing process, innovative clamping systems, advanced print heads with integrated paste height and squeegee pressure control and the unique ASMPT NuMotion control system with fibre optic cabling. The three-stage transport system also ensures higher throughput: it transports three PCBs (up to 250 millimetres long for the DEK TQ and up to 300 millimetres for the DEK TQ L) in one pass. While the PCB in the middle segment is being printed, a new PCB is fed in at the same time and the previously printed PCB is unloaded. The machine automatically uses single-stage transport for longer PCBs up to a maximum length of 400 or 600 millimetres. The universal and flexible DEK All Purpose Clamping (APC) system automatically adapts to the shape and thickness of the PCB using software-controlled linear drives. ASMPT accommodates so much performance on a minimal footprint of 1.3 m² for the DEK TQ and 1.95 m² for the DEK TQ L. Two DEK TQ printers can also be placed back-to-back on the line.
