Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we pause to recognize the millions of people worldwide who are affected by war and natural disasters and rely on humanitarian aid.  For over two years, the world has watched in horror as Ukraine faces unimaginable suffering due to Russia's brutal military attack. At Aurubis, we are delighted to collaborate with industry leaders like Mercedes-Benz AG, Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA) e.V., voestalpine, and TSR Recycling GmbH & Co. KG to drive sustainability in e-mobility through high-quality recycling. Why recycled materials like copper matter: 🔋Using recycled copper reduces energy consumption by up to 80 percent. ⬇️ Recycled copper cuts CO₂ emissions by up to 1.9 tons per ton used. ♻️ Around 44 percent of our copper cathodes are from recycled materials, resulting in a 50 percent lower CO₂ impact. More than 1.1 million tons of recycled materials are processed by Aurubis annually. Our interim report for Q3 of 2023/24 is out now.    In a nutshell: Aurubis significantly increases its nine-month operating result compared to Q3 of the previous year. We are delighted to share the renewal of our supply contracts with Air Liquide to bolster our industrial partnership. Air Liquide will invest approximately 100 million euros to enhance our capabilities in Bulgaria and Germany, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable industrial development in Europe. 🇧🇬 At Aurubis Bulgaria, a state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) will replace older facilities, boosting the production of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon essential for our operations. ⚡Scheduled for completion in 2027, this new ASU is designed to reduce electricity consumption by 7% and will partly operate on renewable energy, potentially saving up to 100 kt CO₂ annually. 🇩🇪 In Germany, Air Liquide will modernize the four existing ASUs at Aurubis sites by 2027. These units are crucial for supplying industrial gases to Aurubis' copper production and supporting regional markets. Yesterday, Aurubis successfully wrapped up the largest maintenance shutdown in company history at its Hamburg site. 🏗️ With roughly 500 individual tasks and an around € 95 million budget for plant maintenance and technical upgrades, we made important investments in the Hamburg plant’s efficiency and environmental protection. 💬 “We executed all the shutdown tasks with the highest quality – a technical and logistical tour de force, given the extreme complexity of the shutdown,” Aurubis Chief Transformation Officer Prof. Dr. Markus Kramer said. 👷 Around 2,000 people were involved in the large-scale project including 1,500 workers from partner companies, suppliers and service providers. ♨️ Along with the comprehensive maintenance and renewal work, we also executed two strategic projects during the shutdown that further expand Aurubis’ pioneering role in sustainability: The installation of hydrogen-ready anode furnaces and the expansion of our carbon-free industrial heat project. 💬 “This strategic investment represents another milestone along our path towards carbon neutrality, and demonstrates at the Hamburg site that as an industry, we are an important part of the solution for accelerating decarbonization,” Aurubis CEO Roland Harings emphasized.
