Developing products at the forefront of medical technology as part of your master’s thesis? We are thrilled to welcome Björn V. as one of our new development engineers at B. Braun New Ventures (BBNV). Björn joined our team in November last year, starting his master’s thesis focused on enabling robot-assisted Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery with our robotic platform. In collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, a prototype was developed to enhance the overall accuracy and stability required for DBS interventions. After successfully completing his thesis, he is now working as a development engineer at BBNV. “Writing my master’s thesis at BBNV was a fantastic experience for me as a student, providing deep insights intro the interdisciplinary context of robotics combined with current medical breakthroughs. Besides the work, I also got to know the team and the company better, discovering how I can contribute to BBNV with my skills in medical engineering, robotics, and product development. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me during my thesis, and I am delighted to now be working at BBNV as a development engineer.” Integrating motivated and innovative students into our family is part of BBNV’s philosophy. It allows us to continuously work on various research and development topics while providing students with hands-on experiences and skill set expansions. As in Björn’s case, it often serves as a gateway to an exciting career path.

Congresses are always a good way to keep in touch with the community, make sure to contact us during one of the upcoming events!
I had the opportunity to attend the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) in the beautiful city of Sofia. It was an enriching experience where neurosurgeons and tech companies discussed the future in neurosurgery with AI, Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies that can improve treatment, training, education and access to care. #EANS2024 #Neurosurgery #Sofia #BBNV #Aesculap

Innovation thrives when global teams come together, given the time and the space to cultivate groundbreaking ideas. Three years ago, Michael Lauk, Chief Digital Officer at B. Braun, launched the B. Braun Heckaton with this very vision in mind. This year, the event took place in Freiburg, Germany, home to B. Braun New Ventures. The potential of robotic surgery multiplies when surgical data can be effectively utilized and shared. With this goal, a team from B. Braun New Ventures dove deep into cloud-based solutions aimed at enhancing surgical workflows and patient treatment paths. The energy and creativity that emerge when our talented engineers and product owners collaborate is nothing short of extraordinary. This goes far beyond innovation marketing - it’s sustainable innovation, an integral part of our mission to digitize medtech and improve healthcare. The Heckaton is a clear reflection of our commitment to shaping the future of medicine for the better.

Our robotic surgery platform is making incredible strides forward. During a recent visit to our manufacturing site in Tuttlingen, the B. Braun Board, under the inspiring leadership of our CEO Anna Maria Braun, received an in-depth update on our advances in R&D, Production, and Marketing. In a symbolic and proud moment, they left their signature on our latest prototype - marking another milestone in our journey. The feedback we gathered was invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and trust our leadership continues to place in us. This encouragement fuels our passion to push boundaries in robotic surgery even further.

Our international cooking events are a tradition meanwhile. For the fourth time employees from 15 different countries brought delicious meals and enjoyed a wonderful evening at our office. As usual, self-organized, self-sponsored and, of course, home made. Amazingly, this time the award for the best meal did not go to an exotic meal but to a traditional local black forrest cake.

B. Braun New Ventures has successfully passed another ISO 13485 surveillance audit by TÜV Süd with an excellent result. While there are still areas for improvement, we are pleased with the positive assessment of our quality system. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with TÜV Süd as we prepare to deliver a high-quality platform for robotic surgery. After two intensive audit days, the team took a well-deserved break to celebrate before gearing up for the next sprint.

B. Braun Gruppe is striving for digital excellence in all areas of business. While product development at B. Braun New Ventures is digitally pretty advanced this does not apply to many of our HR processes causing inefficiencies, intransparencies, and failures. This week we introduced an all encompassing system to digitize all remaining processes. To celebrate the termination of our last paper based process we burned up all our vacation approval sheets. We just love digitization.
