This week we visited one of our longstanding partners in the pharma sector, Avesta, to check out their newly expanded manufacturing site in India, close to Mumbai. In their continuous effort to innovate and supply affordable medicines for a healthier tomorrow, Avesta has opened a new production block for their GMP certified Polyethylene Glycol/Macrogol (CEP and US DMF available upon request), which enables a production capacity of over 2000 mt per month.   The state-of-the-art manufacturing site also qualifies as a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plant. ZLD is a classification of water treatment processes designed to efficiently reduce wastewater and produce clean water suitable for reuse (e.g., irrigation). ZLD systems employ wastewater treatment and desalination technologies to purify and recycle virtually all wastewater received.   Want to learn more about Avesta's production and their Macrogol Pharma grade of various molecular weights? We are excited to announce that we will receive additional distribution mandates for BASF's Elastollan® Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers. With effect from 1 April 2025, Biesterfeld will exclusively handle the distribution of these materials in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic States. One of the key characteristics of Elastollan® Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers is their outstanding mechanical properties. They offer excellent wear, abrasion and tear resistance and tensile strength. The varied portfolio in this product family includes a wide range of ester- and ether-based TPUs as well as light-resistant aliphatic and transparent grades with different degrees of hardness. The properties of the materials are as varied as the possible applications: Elastollan® can be extruded to form tubing, cable sheathing, belts, films and profiles, and also blow-moulded or injection-moulded. We would like to share that Sergej Lazovic is leaving Biesterfeld at his own request and with immediate effect. Frank Johaenning will take over the management of sales for the polymer business in Germany on an interim basis. Sergej Lazovic was appointed as an additional member of the Management Board of Biesterfeld Spezialchemie GmbH alongside Peter Wilkes in 2021 and also joined the Management Board of Biesterfeld Plastic GmbH as an additional member in 2024. “I would like to thank Sergej Lazovic for many years of close and trusting cooperation. He restructured the business of the former Biesterfeld International and successfully drove forward the merger with Biesterfeld Spezialchemie. Since the end of 2024, Sergej has been responsible in particular for the German sales of our polymer business. I wish him all the very best for the future,” explains Peter Wilkes, Member of the Executive Board of Biesterfeld SE, adding: ”I am very pleased that we have been able to gain Frank Johänning to make our polymer sales in Germany even more customer-oriented and efficient. Frank is an experienced manager and expert and will take on this task in addition to his role as Global Business Director Performance Polymers.
