💡 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 💡 Episode 10. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 – 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. Welcome Andrea Tüttenberg and ActiTrexx GmbH team. ActiTrexx is providing a breakthrough cellular therapy targeting the overshooting T cell-mediated autoimmune and inflammatory diseases like Graft-versus-Host Disease (#GVHD) and Multiple Sclerosis (#MS). 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀🔥 👉Every minute someone is diagnosed with #Leukemia worldwide. 👉Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (#HSCT) is the only curative treatment for patients with Leukemia and other forms of malignant blood diseases. 👉Cumulatively, more than 70,000 patients receive HSCT each year in Europe and USA. 👉GvHD is a life-threatening side effect of HSCT and affects up to 60% of patients and carries about a 20% mortality rate. 👉GvHD occurs when the donor T cells attack the patient’s tissues, leading to a range of symptoms that can affect the skin, gastrointestinal tract and liver. 👉GvHD is primarily triggered by the donor’s CD4+ T cells, whose activity is controlled by regulatory T cells (#Treg). 👉Currently, immunosuppressants are used to treat GvHD, but they only treat the symptoms and fail to cure the disease. 👉Further, autoimmune diseases are very common, affecting about 1 in 10 individuals. MS is one of the ten most common autoimmune diseases. 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻💡 🎯ActiTrexx is pioneering with the use of natural guardian cells of the immune system – Treg – to restore the disturbed immune balance in transplant patients to treat or prevent GvHD, ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life. 🎯ActiTrexx’s lead product, #Actileucel, is a first-in-class allogeneic Treg product, which suppresses the undesired activation of CD4+ T cells in the transplant, prevents the development of GvHD. 🎯Actileucel is generated by activating Treg isolated from any healthy, unmatched, 3rd-party donor via a fast proprietary process, making it a standardized, one-drug-fits-all product. 🎯The key advantage of the activated Treg (#ATreg) is that the cells do not need to be expanded in vitro, providing an outstandingly pure cellular product with high suppressive function, infusion ready within less than 24 hours. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 🚀 Actileucel is classified by EMA as an Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) currently being tested in Clinical Phase Ib/II in patients having received an HSCT. ActiTrexx strengthens its forces and raises the next round of financing to advance Actileucel into Clinical Phase III and market entry in GvHD. Further to conduct the Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of MS. 🌟 Visit to the Biomedical Research Center (BFZ) Mainz 🌟 Yesterday, our biomindz team had the fantastic opportunity to visit the completely modernized Biomedical Research Center (BFZ) of Universitätsmedizin Mainz, which opened in November, on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. The state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with the latest technologies and devices - for example, equipped with new basic equipment such as autoclaves, drying cabinets, sequencers or 3D-bioplotters – provide not only optimal working conditions. It also gives the opportunity to pursue innovative research approaches and make further groundbreaking discoveries in #Mainz. Spaces like the Science Lounge and seminar rooms facilitate cross-disciplinary collaborations with other scientific disciplines as well as life science companies. The 10,000 square meter BFZ is used by around 15 preclinical working groups from the 6 preclinical institutes of the Mainz University Medical Center and the Research Center for Translational Neurosciences (FTN) 👩🔬 Together with representatives from the Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Gesundheit Rheinland-Pfalz and the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Verkehr, Landwirtschaft und Weinbau Rheinland-Pfalz we were able to explore the modern experimental laboratories and impressive infrastructure of the BFZ on-site. It is very gratifying to see that right in the heart of the university campus and near the Life Science Campus, another excellent infrastructure for science has been created. 3, 2, 1… Slam! 🎤 Kurz vor der Curious Conference letztes Jahr fand in #Mainz ein #ScienceSlam statt. Mit dabei: Viele junge Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler mit verschiedenen Schwerpunkten aus unterschiedlichen Regionen. Jeder von ihnen hatte die Möglichkeit sein spezifisches Thema den über 350 Besucherinnen und Besuchern vorzustellen. Der Science Slam richtete sich an die breite Mainzer Öffentlichkeit und sollte das Interesse an Zukunftstechnologien und Wissenschaft wecken. Zudem bildetet die Veranstaltung den Auftakt zur #Curious2024 Future Insight Conference, die am 10. und 11. Juli 2024 in der Rheingoldhalle stattfand. Für uns war die Veranstaltung ein besonderes Highlight, weshalb wir es gerne nochmal in Erinnerung rufen. Wir sind auf jeden Fall immer noch begeistert von den spannenden Vorträgen, der besonderen Atmosphäre und den interessanten Menschen, die wir an diesen Abend kennenlernen durften. New record participation at our 9th Life Science and Biotech Meetup hosted by BioNTech SE in Mainz 🙌 The interest in our regular industry get-together was extremely high. With 180 participants from the entire Rhine-Main-Necker metropolitan region and beyond, we fully utilized the capacity of our host's conference room 🚀 In an extremely exciting keynote speech, Dr. François Clement Perrineau, Vice President BioNTech Site Services, showed how BioNTech is continuing its pioneering work beyond COVID-19 vaccine development. Since its foundation in 2008, the Mainz-based company has pursued a clear mission: to improve people's health worldwide through basic research and the development of innovative immunotherapies. In recent years in particular, significant progress has been made in the field of oncology and numerous product candidates are already in advanced clinical trials. 👍 Afterwards, Markus Scheja, Managing Director and Ilias Sarros, Senior Development Manager of Kadans Germany, presented the “Plus Ultra Mainz” project planned in Mainz.  With “Plus Ultra Mainz”, the Dutch company Kadans Science Partner, which specializes in start-up ecosystems, is planning an innovative building complex on the #LifeScienceCampusMainz. It offers a combination of modern laboratory and office space on an area of 19,000 m² 👩🔬 Nino Haase, Lord Mayor of the Landeshauptstadt Mainz, also welcomed the participants and encouraged them to continue to contribute to the positive development and thanked them for the continued high level of interest in the Meetups. Before the event, the participants had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Natural History Museum in Mainz. Parts of the exhibits from the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, which is currently being rebuilt, can be seen as a smaller exhibition in the Natural History Museum in Mainz. The world-famous Gutenberg Bibles could be admired there. The event was once again an excellent platform for exchanging ideas with experts, start-ups and innovators from the life science and biotech sector.
