🌟 #Finance Day Leipzig 2024 – Ein Event voller Insights und Innovationen! 🌟 Am vergangenen Donnerstag, den 24. Oktober, nahm BioRiver durch die Geschäftsführerin Dr. Frauke Hangen wir am Finance Day #Leipzig 2024 teil – ein spannendes und wertvolles Event für Investoren, UnternehmerInnen und Innovationsbegeisterte, das aktuelle Trends in der #Finanzierung von #LifeSciences-Innovationen in den Fokus rückte. 💡 Ein echtes Highlight war die Podiumsdiskussion zu #VentureCapital und Innovationsfinanzierung, in der zentrale Aspekte wie die Rolle von #CorporateVentureCapital im Life Sciences-Sektor und die Herausforderungen des „Valley of Death“ beleuchtet wurden. Besonders inspirierend: Die Vorstellung neuer Finanzierungsinstrumente für Sachsen und der starke Innovationsdrang in der Region Leipzig. Einige der Firmen im Zukunftscluster Saxocell bauen die Brücke zum Rheinland: Miltenyi Biotec Lonza BioThrust. 🔁 Ein weiteres spannendes Panel widmete sich dem Thema IPO und Stock Exchange Listing. Hier gaben Experten wertvolle Einblicke in die Auswirkungen eines Börsengangs auf die Unternehmenskultur und betonten, dass ein IPO das gesamte Team mit neuen Herausforderungen – bis hin zu Gesprächen an der Kaffeemaschine – konfrontiert. Auch wenn Leipzig und Sachsen sich exzellent als Innovationsstandorte präsentierten, blieb ein Wermutstropfen: Die Anzahl der Investoren vor Ort war begrenzt, insbesondere für mittelgroße Investitionen. 👉 Der Konferenztag fand seinen Abschluss in einem exklusiven Dinner mit entspannten Gesprächen und einem inspirierenden Vortrag zum Thema Open Source KI für die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der EU, der das Publikum begeisterte und neue Denkanstöße lieferte. ⬆ Die Teilnahme am Finance Day Leipzig bot wertvolle Einblicke in aktuelle Trends der Innovationsfinanzierung, spannende Kontakte und anregende Diskussionen. We start with the "GiF"-networking session on 7th November, and continue with "GiF"-podium on 21th November, when you can present your founding to female experts. BioRiver Boost! 2024 - event report 👏 👏 👏 BioRiver Boost! 2024: 🎉 🎉 🎉 These teams won the title as best life science startups 2024 in the prestigious BioRiver Boost! startup competition for life science founders: 🏆1. Ingineeon, München 🏆2. TCBalance Biopharmaceuticals, Berlin 🏆3. Sweethoven Biotech, Bonn Congratulation to the winners! TumiKo, Essen, won the Wild Card to be finalist in the BioRiver Boost! 2025. Over 100 life science experts came together in Neuss on 27 September at the premises of our host Johnson & Johnson to listen to inspiring pitches, tricky questions and interesting discussions. The welcoming remarks by Bettina Moeckel (PhD), QIAGEN, chairwoman of BioRiver e.V., and Dr. Stefanie Walther, Commercial Director Specialty Care and Member of the Management Board of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Germany, were followed by a precise and open report by the #winner of the year 2023 Dr. Oliver Grünvogel for Akribion Genomics. The challenges of attracting #investors for a start-up and the necessary #adjustments in the young company were shared by him in a gripping presentation. Moderated by Anna-Lena Kümpel, pitch presentation followed question and answer session after pitch presentation, etc., so that by the time the coffee break came around, four start-ups had already passed their acid test on the BioRiver Boost! stage. The second #pitchsession followed until lunch, with presentations that were as entertaining as they were high-calibre. While the #jury around Dr Bettina Möckel and Peist R., Qiagen, Ralf Angermund and Sebastian Winsel, PhD, MBA, Johnson&Johnson, Karl-Heinz Schneider and Karl D Collins, Bayer, Dr. Volker Vogel, Lonza, Mariette Mohaupt, Miltenyi Biotec, Anna-Lisa Picciolo-Lehrke UCB, Thomas Raueiser, NRW.BANK and Caroline Fichtner, HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds, in order to make the difficult choice of the best teams, start-ups and the audience heard #reversepitches from Holger Eickhoff Peppermint Venture Partners GmbH, Georg Lentzen b.value AG, Alexander Rehn Henkel and Hermann Bohnenkamp Mirko Stange Miltenyi Biotec. The speakers presented investment strategies and areas of cooperation. A discussion round moderated by BioRiver Managing Director Frauke Hangen with BioRiver Boost! alumni Slim Chiha PROSION Therapeutics, Ewald Fernbach PhageStack GmbH, Dr Oliver Grünvogel (Akribion Genomics) and Ernesto Llamas (Plantman). This was followed by time for direct dialogue between the jury, start-ups and the audience. The festive #awardceremony crowned the day. Review of BioRiver Boost! 2024 On 27 September 2024, at the invitation of BioRiver - Life Science im Rheinland e.V., more than 100 life science experts came together at Johnson & Johnson in Neuss to get to know eight selected start-ups and honour the best ones. 8 teams were selected by the #jury out of 32 national and European applications. Georg Lentzen pitching at the 11th BioRiver Boost! last week… This year, Frauke Hangen made VCs pitch at BioRiver Boost! 🎤, which was a fantastic initiative to allow start-ups to get to know investors and approach them during the networking session. Thanks for the opportunity to explain what we do as early-stage investors in the fields of biotechnology 🧬, new materials 🧪, and life sciences 🔬. But the spotlight was, of course, on the 8 finalists ✨, who pitched in front of a jury of industry professionals. The finalists this year were: 🥇 Ingeenion 🥈 tcbalance Biopharmaceuticals 🥉 Sweethoven Biotech Highlights of this year’s event, aside from the outstanding pitches , were for us: ▪️ Dr. Oliver Grünvogel, last year’s BioRiver Boost! winner 🏆, gave an update on the developments since then. He provided open and honest feedback, along with many valuable tips. ▪️ The “wildcard” 🎟️ for Tumiko, a team with an exciting but early academic research project. The wildcard allows Tumiko to automatically pitch again next year as a finalist. This initiative encourages researchers with early ideas to apply and receive valuable feedback, along with connections to industry professionals and investors early on. ▪️ The song that was playing when the pitch winners were announced… “Legendary” 🎶 by Welshly Arms ;) It was great to connect and reconnect with many people from the ecosystem.
