In honor of 250 years of shoemaking tradition, BIRKENSTOCK proudly presents the Kyoto Tradition sandal—a limited edition release of just 250 pairs, each crafted to celebrate our rich heritage and unwavering commitment to quality. The Kyoto Tradition sandal embodies centuries of craftsmanship, starting with our signature footbed, baked from cork harvested from trees over 200 years old. Wrapped in premium deerskin leather, tanned at Kolesch, Europe’s oldest tannery, the sandal showcases an all-natural tanning process that has been perfected since 1723. Using the Altsämisch method—relying solely on salt, water, and fish oil—Kolesch creates soft, durable leather free from chemicals, perfectly suited for the elegant upper with an embossed hook and loop strap, individually engraved from 1 to 250. At the core of this exclusive design is BIRKENSTOCK's iconic footbed, reflecting our dedication to function, quality, and tradition. Sustainably harvested cork ensures each sandal is as comfortable as it is enduring. Last night, we celebrated the launch of our new Professional campaign at our beautiful Walk With Me community space in London, showcasing the latest iterations of the Professional collection, including the innovative SUPERLAUF 2.0 collection. It was a fantastic gathering of industry leaders and partners, all coming together to explore our new range of professional footwear designed for those who work tirelessly on their feet. We were thrilled to host Michelin-starred chef Tom Sellers, who is featured as one of our campaign’s inspiring protagonists. Tom shared his incredible journey in the culinary world and discussed how the BOSTON PRO keeps him grounded amidst the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. His passion for excellence truly embodies the spirit of our campaign. Our Professional collection is crafted with safety, quality, and functionality in mind. Featuring slip-resistant soles and easy-to-clean materials, these shoes are perfect for professionals across various fields—from healthcare to hospitality. In the heart of Bali at Titik Dua Ubud, we celebrated 250 years of BIRKENSTOCK shoemaking tradition with a memorable event that brought together influencers, media, and local creatives to experience our brand’s legacy of craftsmanship, culture, and sustainability. The day started with a breathtaking walk along the Campuhan Ridge, where attendees experienced the orthopedic support of BIRKENSTOCK sandals amidst Bali's lush scenery. This was followed by a visit to the Ubud Art Market, highlighting the island's rich craftsmanship, and a cultural tour of the stunning Ubud Palace. A standout moment was the hands-on leathercraft workshop, led by Bali’s own Oka Kartini, where production waste was creatively transformed into beautiful art—truly reflecting our commitment to sustainability. We also debuted Henry Leutwyler's "Walk This Way" Traveling Photo Exhibition, spotlighting iconic designs like the MADRID, ARIZONA, and GIZEH, showcasing the evolution of BIRKENSTOCK’s craftsmanship. Our collaboration with Rumah Plastik and environmental advocate Putu Eka Darmawan made a strong impact, transforming plastic waste into meaningful creations—a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility for the environment. Our Soho store was transformed into a vibrant space, showcasing imagery from our upcoming book project, "The Book of BIRKENSTOCK"—a visual journey through two and a half centuries of craftsmanship, innovation, and cultural influence. The stunning photography tells the story of our family origins, our impact on fashion and healthcare, and our unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. Tonight, BIRKENSTOCK celebrated a significant milestone—our 250-year tradition of shoemaking—with a special photo exhibition and exclusive book launch at our creative hub at Dray Walk Gallery in Shoreditch, London. The event was graced by notable guests from the creative industries, media and local communities with music expertly curated by BBC Radio One DJ Charlie Tee. The dynamic soundtrack, featuring electronic artist Rules and rising French DJ sensation Selena Faider, added a contemporary vibe to the evening. Guests enjoyed an exclusive preview of photography from our special edition book projects created to celebrate this 250th milestone. The exhibition featured stunning visuals by Henry Leutwyler and Juergen Teller, along with never-before-seen archive materials from the early advertisements, original photos, marketing materials, iconic brand campaigns to trend-defining fashion editorials featured in the forthcoming BOOK OF BIRKENSTOCK and original artefacts from the brand's archive. The retrospective was further enriched by product displays showcasing BIRKENSTOCK’s rich design history, including one-of-a-kind design icons and collaborations with renowned designers like Rick Owens and Toogood. Attendees also got a glimpse of “OLD MILLS NEVER DIE,” a limited-edition photo book set curated by Gerhard Steidl, which celebrates BIRKENSTOCK’s past, present, and future through the lens of today’s most influential photographers. The milestone exhibition will be open to the public from Thursday, September 5th, to Sunday, September 8th, offering an exclusive insight into the book series launched to celebrate BIRKENSTOCK’s 250- year shoemaking tradition. The 1774 collection represents the pinnacle of BIRKENSTOCK craftsmanship, blending luxury with innovative design. This newly designed store is not just a retail space—it’s an immersive experience that embodies the essence of BIRKENSTOCK’s heritage and innovation. Spanning 214 square meters, it’s the largest BIRKENSTOCK store in both Thailand and Southeast Asia. The store features a special room dedicated exclusively to the 1774 collection, with design elements like cork panels and natural jute carpets that reflect our brand’s identity. The launch event was a star-studded affair with top celebrities like Mark-Prin Suparat, Thanaerng-Kanyawee Songmuang, and Nychaa-Nuttanicha Dungwattanawanich in attendance. The highlight of the evening was the debut of the "Eternal Sunshine" collection, which reimagines our iconic styles with fresh, innovative materials.
