Scientists at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) and Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory have developed a groundbreaking technique combining X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. This innovative method creates “fingerprints” of materials, providing new insights that were previously inaccessible. The new technique leverages unsupervised machine learning, allowing the AI to self-learn and recognize patterns in X-ray scattering data. This enables researchers to condense complex data into essential fingerprints, much like a material's genome. 💡 Key Highlights: ► AI and XPCS are used to understand how materials evolve under stress and relaxation. ► The AI algorithm autonomously identifies repeating patterns, acting as a pattern recognition expert. ► This approach helps create a map of material fingerprints, clustering similar characteristics and providing a holistic view of material structures over time. ► The upgraded APS will generate 500 times brighter X-ray beams, necessitating AI’s powerful data sorting capabilities. The project, dubbed AI-NERD (Artificial Intelligence for Non-Equilibrium Relaxation Dynamics), is revolutionizing how we understand material dynamics. Kudos to the collaborative efforts of the APS and CNM teams! What are your thoughts on this? 🤔 #ai #chatgpt #machinelearning #robotics

"𝙄𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙮𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩..." Artificial intelligence can do remarkable things, but a general consensus seems to have emerged about one thing it can't, or perhaps shouldn't, do: Compose a child's admiring letter to her sports hero. Google learned this lesson the hard way with their new ad for the AI-powered chatbot, Gemini. In the ad, a dad asks Gemini to write a note to Olympic hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone on his daughter's behalf. The ad has been widely criticized, with people expressing their disgust, saying they wanted to "scream" and found it "gross" and "disgusting." Dr. James R. Doty, a Stanford University neuroscientist who studies how people set intentions and achieve their goals, felt less outrage and more concern for the commercial's troubling premise. ► "This is a very personal narrative that comes, if you will, from [a person's] heart and soul," ► "Somehow switching it to have an AI do it for you…it destroys the whole understanding of what it is to write a letter to a hero." What are your thoughts on this? 🤔 #google #gemini #olympics #chatbot

𝑵𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑻𝒓𝒚 𝑯𝒂𝒉𝒂 😉 - ChatGPT Memes about tricking AI bots by telling them to "ignore all previous instructions" often highlight how easily AI chatbots can be manipulated, leading to unexpected and humorous responses. But OpenAI's research team has come up with a clever solution called "instruction hierarchy" to tackle this issue. With this technique, the developer’s original instructions take priority over any new commands the user might try to inject, meaning no more tricking chatbots! The first model to use this approach is the newly launched GPT-4o Mini. Olivier Godement from OpenAI explained that this new safety method ensures the model strictly follows the developer’s initial instructions, effectively preventing the “ignore all previous instructions” trick. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞: ► Instruction Hierarchy: Developer instructions are prioritized over user commands. ► Enhanced Security: GPT-4o Mini is the first model to use this technique. ► Future Guardrails: These will be essential for the safety of automated digital agents. With this new approach, chatbots are set to become much more reliable and secure! What are your thoughts on this? 🤔 #chatgpt #openai #ai #gpt

The 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 of 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 with 𝑸𝒖𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒎 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 ⚛ Google's new quantum computer, Sycamore, is showing remarkable performance. That would be equivalent to doing 47 years of computational work in 6 seconds! It made it 241 million times faster than the one launched in 2019. 🤯 The new and improved Sycamore has 70 qubits, while its old version has 53 qubits. This quantum leap in power has put Sycamore in the position to run calculations that classical computers would simply not be able to handle, and this is what quantum technologies were touting for advancement. Google, however, does not stop there. The company opened its prize purse of $5 million to the public to reward breakthrough real-world applications of quantum computers. Though quantum machines already de facto perform faster on some problems compared to other tools, actual use in practice has been hard to achieve. We stand on the edge of a quantum revolution, and it is fantastic to see where this journey will take us. 🌟 What are your thoughts on this? 🤔 #Google #Sycamore #quantum #computer #computing

𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒂 is winning the 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑾𝒂𝒓! 😳 The parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, is partnering with the American chip designer Broadcom to develop an advanced AI processor. This move has strategic importance to secure a reliable supply of high-end chips amid U.S.-China tensions. Taiwanese foundry TSMC will make the 5-nanometer application-specific integrated chip in line with U.S. export restrictions. This collaboration is one of the early ones using advanced 5nm technology after Washington imposed the export restrictions on cutting-edge semiconductors, which took effect in 2022. Key Points: ↳ ByteDance and Broadcom make a 5nm AI processor as part of a new partnership to help satisfy U.S. export requirements. ↳ TSMC will be the one to manufacture the chip, even though production is not expected to begin this year. ↳ To this end, ByteDance has been spending big on buying AI chips from Nvidia and Huawei. ByteDance has continued its partnership with Broadcom, which has been in place since at least 2022, to lower procurement costs and ensure a stable supply. ByteDance, while heavy into investments in AI for everything from TikTok enhancements to an offering similar to ChatGPT through a chatbot service called Doubao, the company has stockpiled Nvidia chips and acquired Huawei's Ascend 910B chips - $2 billion set aside for those buys last year. They are also currently actively hiring semiconductor talent to boost their AI capabilities.
