Whether one is buying or selling a bike, we ensure full protection of the entire process on our platform and beyond. And here’s how that works out in detail: ➡️ Here’s how it works in detail: When purchasing a bike on buycycle, payments are processed by our trusted payment provider, Adyen. You might already be familiar with Adyen if you've ever booked an Uber, shopped at Microsoft, or paid for LinkedIn Premium. The payment is secured in an escrow account until you’ve received your new bike. If the bike shows significant discrepancies compared to its listing, our customer care team will review your claim in detail and get back to you with a solution as soon as possible. In short, on buycycle, you get what you see. And if not, you get your money back. Meanwhile, sellers can rest assured that their bike is already paid for when they begin preparing it for shipment or pickup. We provide all necessary packaging materials, and shipping is insured to ensure the bike is well protected on its journey to a new owner. 🌍 From Bavaria to Alaska – buycycle Adventures on Two Wheels! 🚴♀️ At buycycle, our team members love putting their cycling abilities to the test through bikepacking—just them, their bikes and the open road. Here are some recent highlights from our team’s incredible adventures. Shirin Türel took her first bikepacking trip around Bavaria, where she captured stunning content for our YouTube channel and Instagram. Cycling around Bavaria’s lakes, she discovered the freedom of packing lifes essentials onto her bike. James LaLonde embarked on an epic 680 km journey from Munich to Lytomysl, Czech Republic, and onward to Prague, conquering a total of 6,724 meters of elevation in just four days. His biggest day? A challenging 250 km with an impressive 3,841 meters of climbing! Laura Möller took on an incredible 23,000 km journey from Argentina to Alaska, raising €21,000 for World Bicycle Relief. New Bike Sales – Too Much Kool-Aid? The bicycle industry, much like the car market before it, may be overhyping the return of new bike sales. Are we “drinking our own Kool-Aid” by expecting significant growth in new sales to continue? Currently, 60-70% of global bike sales are new, but with rising costs, sustainability concerns, and better-quality pre-owned options, the used bike market now accounts for 30-40% of total sales—and growing. This mirrors the car industry, where pre-owned sales now dominate at 80%. With bikes built to last, platforms like Cycle Exchange and Buycycle are making it easier to buy high-performance used bikes for less. While the overall bike market is expected to grow 5-7% annually, e-bikes are leading that growth, with 9-11% CAGR, rather than traditional new bikes. It’s tempting to believe new traditional bike sales will again boom, but we may be tripped up “drinking the Kool-Aid” of past successes. Just as in the car industry, new sales volumes have been static for over 20 years, while the pre-owned market has surged. A similar shift is now unfolding in cycling. This strategic decision is significant, as bike parts represent a major revenue opportunity for us. A recent study shows that the global bicycle components market is projected to reach $12.35 billion by the end of 2024 and nearly double to $23.7 billion by 2034.
