Last month, we were thrilled to support the International Sheep Dog Championships 2024. Let’s look back at some highlights from the event! 🌟 📚 Nearly 100 children from local schools learned about the importance of renewable energy and generated their own electricity through interactive #wind and #solar models. 🤝 We had an enthusiastic conversation with HRH Princess Anne about the importance of renewable energy in building a #sustainablefuture. 🐑 We supported a beloved local event and enjoyed it together with our guests from the #localcommunity. This week, Pondera took BayWa r.e. Benelux on a field trip! Renewable energy consultants Erik Holtslag and Maarten Graveland took us out to the field to visit a wind measurement system. The Windcube is a LiDAR system, which measures the movement of particles in the air by shooting laser beams into the sky up to a height of 300 meters. This system detects wind speeds over a longer period, and can be used to determine the yield of a (potential) wind farm. Fun fact: the Windcube is itself powered by renewable energy, surrounded by a wall of salvaged solar panels. Back at the office, Erik and Maarten presented about the application of wind data for the development of a wind farm. Wind measurements can be extremely complex, but in the end, they determine whether a wind farm is feasible or not. Overall, it was a fun and enriching day, and our team looks forward to applying these insights to our own projects in the near future together with Pondera. #windmeasurement #LiDAR #windcube #windenergy #onshorewind #renewableenergy #bwrebenelux #bwreNL

The #wind is picking up for renewable energy in the Netherlands! For the first time, #renewableenergy is the most important source of electricity production in the Netherlands. In the first half year of 2024, renewable energy generated 53% of electricity. As the demand for renewable energy increases, our team in the Benelux is working hard to realize onshore wind projects together with local communities. NedZero - Wind Energy Association, a trade association for renewable energy of which BayWa r.e. Benelux is a member, together with the trade association for grid operators, recently published an open letter emphasizing the advantages of onshore #windpower. “Onshore wind power is not only essential for achieving our climate goals, but can also support with complex challenges we are facing today, such as grid congestion and national security. And when we develop projects together with the local community, everyone benefits,” says Marc Noël de Wild, Head of Wind Development for BayWa r.e. Benelux.
