Future Tech Fest 2024 (Scroll down for English) 🇩🇪Gestern fand das Future Tech Fest in Düsseldorf statt, an welchem auch die @hhu_de (organisiert von @cedus_hhu) zusammen mit der Hochschule Düsseldorf erneut mit einem Gemeinschaftsstand für Startups und Wissenschaftler*innen teilnahm. Dort stellten über 250 Startups und Wissenschaftler*innen ihre neuesten Technologien, ihre Forschungen sowie ihre Produkte vor mit den Schwerpunkten HighTech, GreenTech sowie HealthTech. CEPLAS wurde vertreten durch Christiana Kothes (Innovationsmanagerin Köln) und Götz Hensel (HHU). 📣 👩🔬 Am Samstagnachmittag fand „Soapbox Science Rheinland“ zum zweiten Mal in Köln statt. Auf dem Zeppelinplatz in der Kölner Innenstadt stiegen junge Wissenschaftlerinnen auf Seifenkisten und hielten Kurzvorträge zu ihrer Forschung vor neugierigen Passanten🤩. Die Veranstaltung wurde von den drei Exzellenzclustern CECAD Cologne (Alternsforschung), dem gemeinsamen Cluster der Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, RWTH Aachen University, Forschungszentrum Jülich und #UniKöln für Quantenphysik ML4Q | Matter and Light for Quantum Computing und dem gemeinsamen Cluster mit der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf für Pflanzenwissenschaft CEPLAS - Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences organisiert. ℹ️ Bei den Veranstaltungen von „Soapbox Science“ steigen Forscherinnen weltweit an öffentlichen Plätzen auf Seifenkisten und erklären auf leicht verständliche und anschauliche Art und Weise ihre Arbeit. CEPLAS Career Speed Dating 2024 (Scroll down for Englisch) 🇩🇪 10 CEPLAS Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen nahmen an dem Speed Dating teil, um mehr über Karrieremöglichkeiten außerhalb der Wissenschaft zu erfahren. Dabei trafen Sie sich mit sieben Vertreter*innen aus verschiedenen nicht-akademischen Berufsfeldern in entspannter Atmosphäre im InnoDom Köln. Nachdem die externen Gäste ihren persönlichen Karriereweg und ihre aktuellen Unternehmen kurz vorstellten, kamen sie im Rahmen eines Speed-Datings mit allen teilnehmenden CEPLAS-Mitgliedern individuell ins Gespräch. Die Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen nutzten diese besondere Gelegenheit, um sich individuelles Feedback zu ihren Lebensläufen einzuholen und für sie relevante Themen, wie z.B. spezifische Jobanforderungen, zu besprechen und zu Netzwerken. https://lnkd.in/dNRYbEU2 🇬🇧10 CEPLAS early career researchers participated in the speed dating to learn more about career opportunities and establish contacts outside academia. They met with seven representatives from various non-academic professional areas in a relaxed atmosphere at InnoDom Cologne. After the external guests briefly introduced their personal career path and current companies, they individually talked to all participating CEPLAS ECRs in a one-to-one speed dating format. As we continue to develop our highly valuable (and fun) relationship with the excellent CEPLAS - Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences at #LifeHubMonheim, we were really excited to take part in their Exchange Platform 2024 with a strong focus on #biologics in Crop Protection. Bjoern Hahn gave insights into how academia can best prepare for partnerships with companies in field of biologics. 🗝𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 🌉 The Bayer Crop Science | Innovation Ecosystem has great opportunities help early-stage research bridge the dreaded innovation “valley of death”. 🏃♀️ As with all types of crop protection not just biologics: know your competitors. Benchmark your product against the market standards. 📜 And one that comes up a lot, but always needs driving home. Make sure you know the difference between IP and FTO. Just because you have “Intellectual Property” (patents) on your invention, doesn’t mean you can sell it or use (no “Freedom To Operate”). #Ecosystem #CropProtection #TeamBayer

Sustainability Goals of CEPLAS Part II (Scroll down for English) 🇩🇪Heute ist der Tag der Erde, weshalb wir euch die Haupt-Nachhaltigkeitsziele von CEPLAS vorstellen möchten. Diese basieren auf den Zielen für nachhaltige Entwicklung der Vereinten Nationen aus dem Jahr 2015. Das heutige vorgestellte Ziel ist „Maßnahmen zum Klimaschutz“. Genauer bedeutet dies, aktiv zu werden, um gegen den Klimawandel und dessen Einflüsse anzugehen. Die Gruppe von Maria von Korff Schmising an der HHU forscht an der Genetik in Gerste einschließlich der wilden Verwandten, um die zeitliche Entwicklung und Sprossbildung der Arten zu verstehen. Die Ergebnisse werden in Zusammenhang mit der landwirtschaftlichen Performance der Nutzpflanzen gebracht. Diese Arbeit ist ein Beispiel dafür, wie CEPLAS für eine nachhaltigere Zukunft forscht. 🇬🇧Today is the Earth Day, that is why we want to present the main sustainability goals of CEPLAS, based on the Sustainable Development Goals created by the UN in 2015. Todays presented goal is „climate action“, which means taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. The group of Maria von Korff Schmising exploits existing genetic resources of barley, including wild barley relatives to investigate the timing of development and tiller formation. The results will be correlated with agronomic performance. This work is an example of how CEPLAS is doing research for a more sustainable future.
