Happy National Intern Day! Every year, we invite brilliant students to join our team for the summer to gain new skills and work experience, find friends and mentors, and make some amazing memories. A common theme we hear from our interns is how hands-on our program is, making the impact of the work they do with us tangible. We’re proud to unveil our new insight report drawing from our expert roundtable discussion with HRH Princess Beatrice, Student Minds, Mental Health Foundation, Big Change, and UK student leaders. As part of Student Mental Health Week 2024, this roundtable aimed to address how the UK higher education sector can effectively promote students’ mental well-being by fostering a meaningful dialogue between students and those working to shape policies around student mental health. The significance of this roundtable could not be more profound since our Global Student Survey 2023 found that two-thirds (66%) of UK students are not sleeping enough, 62% are struggling with daily feelings of anxiety, and over half (56%) are experiencing academic burnout. At the same time, leaders around the world are acknowledging the need for improved mental health policies. Last week, King Charles III announced a new bill to reform the Mental Health Act 1983 in England and Wales, ensuring it serves diverse backgrounds and those with learning disabilities and autism. We have an exciting update to share about Busuu, our language learning platform. We’ve introduced a new “speaking practice” feature that allows our 120 million registered users (and counting!) to practice speaking another language on their own time, in a safe, judgment-free space. Our new feature combines AI-powered feedback and personalized pronunciation practice with videos of native speakers that help learners build confidence with their listening and pronunciation skills. AI is transforming the way we learn. Its impact on the educational landscape is full of unknowns and new questions need to be asked: In the age of AI, what are the skills students need—and are those the skills they’re being taught now? How can students optimize their futures as AI takes on a bigger role in their daily lives? Last week, I spent time in Toronto, Canada and NDSM, Amsterdam to discuss this topic with incredible leaders in tech from around the world.    I joined David Savage for a great conversation at Collision Conf on how we can leverage AI to deliver tailored learning support for higher education students as they juggle their busy lives and responsibilities alongside their studies.    And at TNW Conference, I further explored the role of edtech companies like Chegg Inc. in the era of personalized learning and the balancing act between simplifying the learning process and maintaining the active engagement required for true learning.
