Good news! Have you been longing to calculate exactly how guilty you should feel about your existence? Then look no further than this phenomenal little product, brought to you by big oil. Sound familiar? We had fun filming this. We hope it brings a smile to people's faces :) And also... we hope it gives an opportunity to pause and reflect on the topic of climate guilt. The idea of a climate footprint calculator was brought into public awareness by bp in a campaign they ran with the ad firm Ogilvy. They even made a climate footprint calculator and put it on their website. Why would they do that? What might their motivation be? And how did they justify the cost of such a campaign? What were the potential business benefits of a campaign like that? For us, being a climate guardian is about, yes, trying to take care of our personal carbon footprint AND, importantly, also recognising that while we live in a world running on burning fossil fuels, we won't solve this crisis. Ever felt difficult emotions about climate change? If you have, here's a secret that we take comfort in. If you've experienced climate anxiety and related difficult emotions like anxiety, frustration and sadness, it's not surprising. The reality of climate change is harsh. What often comes with these feelings is a sense of isolation. "How can it be that everyone else seems to be acting as if everything's fine?" you might ask. In fact, the truth is different from that: 💚 Over 70% of young people think the future is frightening and that people have failed to take care of the planet. 💚 Around 60% of Americans are concerned or alarmed about climate change (similar numbers in Western Europe). 💚 70% of Germans believe that politicians and business leaders aren't doing enough for the planet.
