👀Q2 2024: another strong quarter for EU cleantech venture investment 👀 Last quarter, Q2 2.4 billion euros in equity were invested across 161 cleantech deals. Debt rounds fell from the historical record observed in Q1, but show early promise of stabilizing at a level higher than previous years. Against this backdrop, a new political cycle is starting in the EU. In June, Europeans elected a new European Parliament, which reconfirmed Ursula von der Leyen at the helm of the European Commission. In her speech as a candidate for a second mandate, President Von der Leyen reaffirmed her ambition for the future of cleantech to be “made in Europe”. But as global competition accelerates, success will require an unprecedented effort to turn our technological edge into industrial leadership. In short, it’s time to scale! Read our latest Quarterly Briefing to learn more about: 📈 Investment news from the cleantech ecosystem 🏛️ The next Commission’s priorities, such as a Clean Industrial Deal, and the political guidelines for the new mandate 🔋 A deep-dive into the battery recycling sector, with a profile of the innovator cylib 🤝 Top cleantech deals this quarter, including new funds by ETF Partners, GET Fund, Seaya, Vsquared Ventures, Wind and fresh capital for Black Semiconductor, CargoBeamer, John Cockerill, HYSETCO, Salzgitter AG, Valeo, and Verkor To realise Europe’s cleantech potential, extraordinary effort is needed – from creating strong demand signals to facilitating access to abundant, affordable clean energy for clean industry. It will also require Europe to wake up to the new realities of global trade, and take measures to enact a level-playing field between European manufacturers and importers. Most of all, it will require a step-change in how we finance clean technologies, which face an investment gap in the hundreds of billions by 2030.

🌍 Today is earth overshoot day. Earth Overshoot Day marks the day on which humanity has used up all the natural resources that the earth can provide within a year. In 2024, it falls on August 1. If we only look at German resource consumption, then our German Earth Overshoot Day actually falls in May. This means that we in Germany are using up the resources available to us even faster. 💡 What conclusions should we draw from this? We need to transform our actions and our economy into sustainable consumption patterns. Raw materials must be used sensibly and must be recyclable. We must close cycles! ♻ We at cylib are therefore grateful that companies like Voltfang are committed to the reuse of batteries. We are grateful that companies like Circunomics are linking the various stakeholders in the value chain. Let's work together on a sustainable value chain, not just in the battery sector. Sustainability is a team effort! ⚡ Incidentally, the responsible use of resources also makes sense from a geostrategic perspective. Today, we laboriously import almost all battery raw materials into the EU and should therefore do everything we can to use these raw materials for as long as possible and then return them to the cycle. 🙌 Faces behind cylib: Michael Schmak 🙌 As the Team Lead R&D Operations, Michael oversees the planning and coordination of production at cylib's Aachen facility, ensuring a seamless and efficient workflow to meet our recycling and raw material product orders. Besides managing the operations of the Aachen facility, he is also responsible for overseeing IT processes. What makes you passionate about production management? 🏭 "It never gets boring. I get to work with a large number of team members and get insights into the process steps form DaD (Discharging & Disassembly) to hydrometallurgy. I learn something new every day." What do you enjoy about working at cylib? ♻️ "I am responsible for various processes and can implement my own ideas independently. Also, I love to work with our #cyFamily. Working with a wild group of very smart individuals from diverse backgrounds gives me the opportunity to learn on a professional and personal basis. Besides that – I think we are all slightly crazy which makes working together a lot of fun (and partying)." What is your personal vision of cylib? 🚀 "True world domination of the global lithium-ion battery recycling market." What is your favorite song or genre? 🎶 "Growing Pains by Ludacris. I also really love Christian Steiffen!" What life motto do you try to live by? 🤘 "Carpe Diem and “Immer weitermachen! Immer weiter! Immer weiter!" by Oliver Kahn." #cylib #FacesBehindcylib #MeetMichael #Teamcylib #Operations #Production #BatteryRecycling #Battery #Recycling #BatteryHills52068

cylib Featured on ntvNachrichten! 🏭🎥 We are thrilled to be featured in a recent television episode of ntvNachrichten’s Startup Magazine alongside Circunomics, spotlighting the great demand for a circular European battery infrastructure. The segment offers behind-the-scenes insights into our end-to-end battery recycling operations in Aachen, Germany, showcasing our incredible team at work and bringing you into the minds of our founders, CEO Dr. Lilian Schwich, CTO Paul Sabarny and COO Dr. Gideon Schwich. What do we mean by "end-to-end"? 🪫🏎️ Founded on nearly 10 years of research, cylib handles every step of the recycling process, from dismantling and discharging batteries to recovering the final raw material — all in-house. This means our production can intake EV batteries directly and process them holistically. What do we mean by "holistically"? ♻️ Our process recovers all elements in a lithium-ion battery, not just selected materials, making it more resource-efficient. Additionally, using proprietary technology developed by our CEO Dr. Lilian Schwich, cylib recovers lithium and graphite through a water-based process, significantly reducing the process’ carbon footprint. To implement our deep tech, a robust battery infrastructure is essential. Therefore, the ntvNachrichten episode also highlights Circunomics, providing a digital B2B marketplace through analytics to connect spent battery owners with recycling and second-life partners. We are delighted to collaborate and create a true circular economy together. Pictured with our Supply Chain & Operations Associate, Linus Glowinski, we thank Marius Vogt, Head of Sales at Circunomics, and the entire team at Circunomics for keeping battery material value in Europe. Thank you to Andreas Leimbach and the entire team at ntvNachrichten for the fantastic coverage! #cylib #ntv #TV #Circular #Industry #Europe #DeepTech #Growth #BatteryRecycling #Battery #Recycling #BatteryCircleAachen #BatteryHills52068
