German battery recycler, cylib, secures double-digit million-euro grant funding from the federal state of NRW 🚀 We are honored to announce that cylib has received a two-digit million-euro grant funding commitment from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The funds will be used to industrially scale cylib’s proprietary battery recycling technology in its first-of-a-kind facility in the Currenta Chempark Dormagen. 🔋 The FOAK project and largest end-to-end battery recycling facility in Europe was only announced in September 2024, following cylib raising the largest equity funding round in European battery recycling. Now, the company has reached another highly significant milestone in its unique growth trajectory, receiving its first double-digit million grant funding through the program "Produktives.NRW" which supports the production of future-proof technologies for climate-neutral transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia with €100M. 🏭 With this remarkable financial support, cylib has further solidified its project to scale its proprietary "Optimized Lithium & Graphite Recovery” (OLiC) and recover strategically critical raw materials like lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt and manganese. Recycling 10,000 tons black mass annually, equivalent to approx. 30,000 tons of lithium-ion batteries, this project will create a circular and robust battery economy in Europe. ♻ As a further major milestone for cylib in 2024, this funding is a testament to the immense level of commitment, dedication and hard work cylib has shown (and proven) in the last two years. Each individual, from technical and production staff, engineering teams, to business, finance and administration teams were involved in the preparation of the application. Thank YOU. 💚 #teamcylib Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to North-Rhine Westphalia, Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes NRW and the Stadt Dormagen for making cylib’s project a federal priority and proving that German industry resilience through technological leadership is reality. Recycling reinvented 🔋♻️ "What if we could recover all valuable materials from lithium-ion batteries without compromise?" That question inspired Dr Lilian Schwich and the cylib team to develop a holistic water-based recycling technology that is redefining industry standards. In a newly published interview with NRW.Global Business, our CEO and co-founder shares: 💡 "Existing methods leave too much behind. We ensure that #lithium and #graphite, not just cobalt and nickel, remain in the #loop. With over 90 percent recycling efficiency and up to 80 percent lower #emissions than primary raw material extraction, we are creating a future where #battery recycling is more sustainable." 📍 Why #NRW? "With world-class #research, strong #industry connections, and targeted support for green #innovation, NRW is the ideal launchpad for #scaling our impact across Europe. Our new #Dormagen site is a major step towards a local, independent and #circular battery supply chain." 🔄 Looking ahead? "The #demand for battery materials is growing. We need efficient local #recycling solutions to reduce reliance on imports and secure Europe’s battery industry for the future. That is exactly what we are building with cylib." 🔗 Read the full interview here (in German): https://lnkd.in/dChJsiKj Benjamin Haerdle

🔋 cylib brings battery #recycling to the heart of the EU’s clean industrial future 🔋 The race for clean industrial leadership is on, and #Europe must move faster. At the Cleantech Friendship Group (CFG) launch in the European Parliament, Dr. Gideon Schwich, Co-Founder & COO of cylib, shared insights with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, policymakers, and cleantech leaders on how Europe can #scale up its #battery recycling capabilities and secure #criticalrawmaterials. The event, led by CFG co-chairs MEPs Lídia Pereira and Thomas Pellerin-Carlin, brought together 32 MEPs from 14 EU Member States to push for a strong Clean Industrial Deal, ensuring European cleantech companies have the policy certainty and investment support they need to grow. 💡 cylib’s message was clear: Battery recycling is not just a sustainability issue. It’s a #strategic necessity for Europe’s #emobility autonomy and industrial competitiveness. While the Clean Industrial Deal is a strong step forward, Europe must fully implement the #BatteryRegulation and #CriticalRawMaterialsAct to make sure European secondary raw materials are increasingly used in battery production. To build a competitive EV industry, the #EU must invest in full-cycle battery recycling on European soil. The Cleantech Friendship Group’s relaunch underscores the growing political will to connect European #innovators with policymakers and translate ambition into action. Europe has the talent, the vision, and the #technology. Now, it’s time to act. Cleantech for Europe, Ruben Davis, Zach Sporn

⚡ Big news for European #cleantech The European Commission just introduced the #CleanIndustrialDeal (CID), a major step to strengthen Europe’s position in cleantech. For scale-ups like cylib, this is the type of support needed to #scale innovation, attract investment, and build stronger European #valuechains. The Clean Industrial Deal (#CID) represents a strong investment signal that the #EU is finally getting serious about becoming the “home of cleantech.” Strengthing the business case for cleantech, it creates new demand opportunities and unlocks de-risking tools to mobilize private capital. What does it entail? ✅ EU preference criteria for public procurement and #funding ✅ An European Investment Bank (EIB) vehicle to #support cleantech scale-ups ✅ Faster State Aid #approval for cleantech projects ✅ A boost for #InvestEU, potentially unlocking up to €50 billion in private capital for scaling up innovation. This prioritizes innovative companies, particularly beneficial for cleantech start-ups and scale-ups through guarantee-type instruments. Many tangible measures advocated for by over 100 cleantech leaders in an open letter sent to the Commission by Cleantech for Europe and its regional partners’ in January have been adopted into the EU’s plan. Full letter here: https://lnkd.in/e_8zcV3P At #cylib, we are working on producing green #rawmaterials for sustainable #batteries and strengthening European value chains. With the right support, cleantech #scaleups can lead the #transition to a true #circular economy through technological leadership. These are the right steps to scale up innovation and deploy cleantech fast. Now, it’s time to implement them!
