Back from the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Flight Simulation Conference, where the UK’s aerospace network showed up strong. It was exciting to see fresh ideas in modeling, simulation, and AI - so much great work moving the field forward. A key message throughout all presentations: modeling and simulation are becoming a new superpower for developing, training, and updating AI functions. Through modeling and simulation, we can train AI functions, immediately integrate and verify them, and then directly exercise them with the operator for training. This approach accelerates the update cycle truly from end to end. In our talk on the second conference day “Evolving Flight Training Environments and AI in the Cockpit,”  Pau and I highlighted how our tools get aerospace systems ready for the AI enabled future and prepare operators to make real-time decisions safely and confidently in collaboration with AI. Thanks to the Royal Aeronautical Society, the inspiring speakers and everyone who joined for a great conference: Andy Fawkes, Robert McGeachy, Torvald Mårtensson, Fabian Reinisch, John Goodby, Wouter Hollenga, Chris Hunter, Allyson Kukel MRAeS and many more Looking forward to where these ideas take us next. #FlightSimulation #AerospaceInnovation #AI #ModelingSimulation #FutureOfFlight #MS #RL #ML #XAI #SafeAI

Recap of Airtec 2024: The Acceleration of Drones & AI in Dual-Use Aerial Operations At last week’s AIRTEC | 22-24 OCT 2025 | MESSE AUGSBURG, my presentation, “Drones & AI—How System-of-System Operations Disrupt Dual-Use Aerial Operations,” highlighted a critical shift: it’s not about if drones will dominate our skies, but how many and how automated their missions will be. Defense applications are rapidly driving system-of-system operations, where AI-powered drone swarms collaborate seamlessly. The race is on - how quickly and cost-effectively can we scale these systems? The real challenge isn’t just keeping up - it’s ensuring we lead the charge in both developing and countering these advanced systems, as others may soon scale up their drone swarms, outpacing our defense and commercial capabilities. We must be ready. Equally important is figuring out how to mitigate the operational costs of running these fleets at scale, without sacrificing reliability or affordability. In my presentation, I shared how we at Data Machine Intelligence are building the infrastructure to help the German and European aerospace industries tackle these challenges head-on. A big thanks for the invitation to the organizers of Hashtag #Airtec and all the other participants for sharing your insights. Our joint efforts will shape the future of aerospace innovation. #AI #Drones #SafeAI #UAS #AAM #SystemOfSystems #DualUse #AIRTEC2024

This represents a significant shift from the traditional aviation focus on achieving the highest quality and reliability, often at substantial cost. But what if these expendable assets could also be smart, capable of being controlled in swarms? Such advancements could fundamentally reshape strategic advantages. However, making this vision a reality requires that the tools to develop intelligent systems are available at scale and at a low cost. Scalable software infrastructure is THE cornerstone of making smart expendable assets possible. To build such capabilities, we need a new approach - one that emphasizes simplicity, scalability, and rapid updates. By minimizing the cost of "intelligence" features, we can mass-produce these assets, delivering effective solutions without sacrificing essential performance. At Data Machine Intelligence, we’re working exactly on this. With our tools, we enable the rapid construction of complex scenarios, the virtual integration of assets, the training of autonomy, and the assessment of system-of-systems performance. These capabilities are crucial for turning the concepts into practical solutions. The accompanying visual is an example of a MUM-T mission built with our mission builder, designed for quick setup, training, and assessment of integrated AI systems. With our tools, developing and deploying these systems efficiently and at scale is now a reality. We invite you to share your experiences. What previously unavailable new technologies have you seen become possible thanks to scalable software solutions? Let’s discuss how we can better balance cost, reliability, and innovation in the face of emerging challenges. #ai #xai #explainableai #ml #rl #uav #uas #mumt #hat #autonomy

As Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril, highlights, software updates are now a daily routine on the battlefield. Imagine the impact this speed could have in aviation. But our current development cycles in aviation are far from this. Right now, systems are designed top-down, on paper, and integrated only at the very end of the process. This approach leads to lengthy revisions, high costs, and missed opportunities, putting competitiveness at serious risk. We need to move beyond traditional approaches and accelerate development to stay ahead.
