Yesterday, Philipp Rall, Caroline Mathilda Rohr, Esmeralda Dueñas Marmolejo, Lennart Nientit, Alexander Beth, Domitille Ferrand and Maria Josefina Pollio Carle had an incredible experience visiting the German Federal Office in Berlin! 🇩🇪 In the guided tour by the diplomat Hans-Christian Mangelsdorf , we explored the historic buildings- from the Nazi era to the GDR and now home to Germany's diplomatic headquarters. Such an inspiring and informative day. Looking forward to more experiences like this! ✨ #AuswärtigesAmt #Government #CulturalExchange

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 Last week, I had the privilege of participating in a two-day workshop: "Science & Tech Diplomacy: Challenges and Opportunities of Emerging Technology in Foreign Relations." The workshop has left me with some thoughts I'd like to share. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗚𝗮𝗽 There is a strong need for new diplomatic profiles in today's interconnected world. While science diplomats have become more common in ministries of foreign affairs, cyber or tech diplomats remain rare, often concentrated only at headquarters with minimal presence at embassy level where they're urgently needed. This diplomatic imbalance creates a disconnect between policy formation and on-the-ground implementation across different regions. 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀 One quote that resonated deeply with me was: "We need to make the silos dance." However, one speaker argued, for effective collaboration, we must first agree on the music—otherwise, the result will be awkward at best. The various global policy discussions around technology need increased coordination to overcome existing silos and prevent new ones from forming. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 Strong scientific funding in the European sector is crucial. When we lose talent, Europe as a whole loses. This extends beyond scientific institutions to major tech companies where much scientific expertise converges. When our talent emigrates only to later join large tech corporations elsewhere, we see the full circle of why science and tech diplomacy are inseparable challenges requiring coordinated solutions. 𝗙𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 If you're interested in exploring the intersection of science and tech diplomacy further, here are some starting points: 🔷 Martin Wählisch 🌐🕊️has shared his thoughts: https://lnkd.in/dTHUcBSp 🔷 Dr. Tim Flink has published an insightful article, you find it here: https://lnkd.in/dgKTnu-4 Many thanks to the organizers and all participants for these two insightful days!
