Is your #LiveMusic performance space small? Unusually shaped? Full of sonic 'quirks'? You're not the first. But however much of an acoustic nightmare you're facing, there's always room for a little #dbaudio magic. Just like at The Atlantis, a venue in Washington D.C. run by I.M.P. which sought to recreate the intimacy and character of another of its venues (the 9:30 Club) as it was originally in the 1980s – including replicating the layout, despite the acoustic disadvantages of a corner stage in a rectangular building. It's the perfect candidate for a #dbaudio #AugmentedArray. Step forward the #A-Series, which allows you to control sound dispersal in even the most 'sub-optimal' spaces. Here's I.M.P.'s Drew Kot: "We chose the A-Series because its variable splay angles and Mid-Range Directivity Control enabled us to angle the sound and disperse it evenly, despite the challenges of the space. Festival season is getting closer to the end, but still great weekends are going on and coming in. Last weekend it was time for the Flow Festival Oy (Ltd) in Helsinki. In Flow, I worked for Creative Technology Finland as a system technician in Silver Arena which is a big (60m x 80m) tent. Perttu Korteniemi worked for the festival as a system engineer and also took care of the PA design in Silver Arena. Like always, when working with Perttu, it is easy and fun, but still instructive. Thank you Perttu! Like every succesful organization, also Flow festival is developing its services every year. Based on Perttu’s PA design, this year the festival invested even more to the Silver Arena sound system with some delay lines and making improvements in the acoustics of the tent. Based on the design and the improvements of the venue, plus the d&b audiotechnik sound system, the experience was pleasant for all our guests and the audience and we got many happy faces and thanks from the front of house engineers and techs as they’d done their job. Next: a quick laundry, one day at the warehouse checking that we have everything we need and we’re ready for the next adventure on Wednesday! The full spectrum of summer festival culture stretches from large-scale #Glastonbury -like spectacles through hedonistic #EDM events to smaller-scale, more refined performances - and we're here for them all! This was #festivaldeglanum, which definitely falls into the latter end of that spectrum. It's a forum for classical music, ballet and opera, held amid the Roman archeological ruins of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in the South of France. Where sound design is about creating atmosphere that complements the surroundings, rather than taking them over. Drinking the whole evocative scene in, rather than losing yourself in the music.
