As I write this from the airport ✈️—despite a delayed flight—I find myself filled with nothing but happiness and gratitude ☺️. The last 48 hours have been an incredible blend of scientific work, learning, and reconnecting with people I don’t get to see as often as I’d like.
I had the privilege of attending EuSoMII - European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics, a congress that may be small in size, but delivers in a big way. The experience was packed with valuable moments, and I’d love to share some of the highlights:
🦾Three Posters Presentations: Our team presented three abstracts, where we had the opportunity to showcase our ideas and strategy for curated applications. It’s always rewarding to share our work with such a knowledgeable and engaged audience.
🍕Exploring Pisa: Not only did I attend a fantastic conference, but I also got to discover Pisa, a city I had never visited before. 🇮🇹is one of my favorite countries, so it was a true pleasure to experience a new part of it during this trip.
🎯Inspiring Presentations: There were so many excellent talks, but one that stood out for me was on “Generalist Radiology AI- Beyond Narrow AI Algorithms” by Pranav Rajpurkar. I learned so much, and it truly highlighted the cutting-edge work being done in this field.
The panel discussion entitled “Inclusivity and biases in radiology. AI and the workforce” moderated by Merel Huisman, MD, PhD was also thought-provoking, addressing a highly relevant topic that we don’t often get the chance to discuss in depth. Thank you to everyone involved!
☄️”Mirror, mirror on the wall how to chose the right AI applications from them all?”Symposium: I had the pleasute of moderating this symposium, which was a great experience. A special shoutout to James Blackwood and Juan Gutiérrez Alliende who did a fantastic job leading the session. I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it—many others gave such positive feedback! It was a pleasure to be part of it, and congratulations to both of you for the great success.
🌸 Reconnecting with Friends: One of the best parts of any congress is the chance to catch up with colleagues and friends you don’t get to see every day. It was wonderful to reconnect with so many of you and share not just our work, but also a few laughs and memories. Thank you all for making the experience so special Juan Gutiérrez Alliende Anastasiya Nederytsia Guglielmo Manco Michele Chinello
Now, as I prepare for my next adventure, I’m excited about what’s to come. In two weeks, I’ll be heading to the 🇺🇸 to meet the rest of our DSB team and continue learning, growing, and pushing forward with our projects.
So, ciao for now, Italy—thank you for the amazing time! See you soon, US!
Safe travels to everyone else attending, and I hope our paths cross again soon.
