Documentary Campus is an internationally renowned documentary film initiative, which is a leader in the education and training of media professionals. We are active with training programmes in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the MENA region for over 20 years. Our programmes have supported media professionals in telling fascinating stories for global audiences. Their films have been traveling festivals worldwide with nominations for Oscars and Emmys. Over 50.000 media professionals have participated in our programmes and conferences that we host in partnership with leading film festivals around the world. Documentary Campus has a large global network of broadcasters, production and distribution companies, international film festivals, as well as funds and foundations. In 2018 Documentary Campus and the German based Robert Bosch Foundation initiated the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival. SILBERSALZ is a multi-day public festival and industry conference, and the newest international event in Europe for bringing scientists, international media industry & the public together to engage about science.   • SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE 2025 SCIENCE & MEDIA AWARDS Science provides a creative platform to expand our understanding of the world around us and changes the way we see and experience our world. And we want to honor the programs which are bringing science to our screens in the most creative ways. Submissions are now open across 6 categories, including Best Science Documentary, Immersive Science Award, and POWER of Science Award. Winners will be honored at an Awards Ceremony in Halle (Saale), Germany between 29 October and 2 November 2025, and have a chance of screening at SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival.   • We're thrilled to announce a brand new initiative with CPH:DOX – an Annual Summit to kick off the Industry Week at CPH:DOX alongside a revitalised CPH:CONFERENCE! This high-level event will bring together politicians, policy makers and industry representatives, providing a unique space for thought-provoking discussions on policies, the future of the audiovisual industry, its role in shaping public discourse, and the impact of documentary on society. The first edition is curated by Mark Edwards, former commissioning editor at ARTE France and former Director of Documentaries in Europe at Netflix, currently working as an independent producer and media consultant. Following the Summit, CPH:CONFERENCE will see mornings being spearheaded by Thom Powers, Artistic Director of the US's largest documentary festival DOC NYC and host of the podcasts Pure Non-fiction and Documentary of the Week. Thom will host a series of in-depth interviews with prominent filmmakers present at CPH:DOX, when we gather for “A Morning With…”. Curating the afternoon sessions for this edition will be Mandy Chang, creative director of Undeniable Productions. Mandy will handpick animated panels and keynotes focusing on the most urgent topics in non-fiction. Join us 24-27 March for all this and more! SILBERSALZ is an international film and science festival focused on public participation that has taken place annually in Halle (Saale) since 2018. In a combination of film screenings, installations, lectures, workshops and discussion rounds, SILBERSALZ makes science and current research tangible for a broad public. The festival is an initiative of the Robert Bosch Foundation and Documentary Campus. The international non-profit organization Documentary Campus has been successfully active in event management and the content conception of workshops, seminars and conferences for documentary filmmakers for 20 years.     We are thrilled to announce that Adam Gee will be joining us as the new Head of Masterschool, ushering in an exciting new chapter for our longest-standing training programme. With his leadership, Masterschool will embark on a transformative journey into the future of factual producing, extending our core territory into the realms of emerging business models, digital-first content, creative application of AI and enhanced global outreach, evolving our approach to factual production and distribution. Prior to joining the award-winning London documentary-specialist independent production company Doc Hearts, Adam was a Commissioning Editor at CAA (Creative Artist Agency, L. A.). His 20-year commissioning career also includes being a long-time Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, the first Commissioning Editor of original programming at Little Dot Studios (on ‘Real Stories’ documentary channel), commissioner at Red Bull Media House, and short form online documentary consultant for Ridley Scott Creative Group. He has won over 90 international awards for his productions, including an Emmy, 6 BAFTAs, 3 Royal Television Society awards, the Grand Award at the New York International Film & Television Festival, and the Media Guardian Innovation award and the RTS Innovation award. Adam has served on BAFTA’s Television and Interactive Entertainment committees, and is a voting member of the European Film Academy. He has taught at the Royal College of Art, the National Film & Television School, and NYU. He is an Honorary Fellow of NUA (Norwich University of the Arts) “for services to the UK Broadcast and Interactive Media industry”. To mark this new appointment, applications for Masterschool 2025 have been extended until 15 December 2024!     The 7th SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival has concluded with a record number of visitors. Over 34,000 people were inspired by #science, #media, #art, and #culture during the five-day event. A diverse program of 70 #films, #talks, #exhibitions, and #events invited attendees to explore fresh ideas and experience new things under the motto “Shake well” at venues across Halle, including Kaufhaus am Markt, the #Leopoldina, #Puschkino, and the #Planetarium. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, especially our outstanding guests!   • That's a wrap on the 2024 Industry Days! Across 2 packed days in Halle (Saale), we heard brilliant pitches from the 2024 Masterschool cohort and 2024 Silbersalz Institute who have been developing their nonfiction projects over the year through our training initiatives. Not to mention the many 1-on-1 meetings between pitching teams and our industry execs, chances to network, and invaluable advice given at the pitching forum! Amongst the inspiring pitches were five stand-outs that were selected as winners of the 2024 Pitch Awards! Presented by our partner festivals and markets, these awards recognise the exceptional talent and stories shown at the Industry Days from the Masterschool and Silbersalz Institute pitching teams.
