Gemeinsam beleuchten wir die Degeneration des Sehnervs und erörtern, welche Behandlungsstrategien diesem Prozess entgegenwirken können. Einige davon zielen darauf ab, Neuroinflammation und oxidativen Stress zu reduzieren, wobei antioxidative Substanzen wie Alpha-Liponsäure und Coenzym Q10 untersucht werden. In a recent article published by The Ophthalmologist , scientists from the Vanderbilt Eye Institute are shedding light on the potential of neuroprotection in glaucoma therapy: https://lnkd.in/exagNfKY. Dr. Ghazi Bou Ghanem and Dr. David J. Calkins stress that the current focus on managing intraocular pressure (IOP) is failing a significant portion of patients who still progress to blindness. They propose a paradigm shift, advocating for a multi-pronged strategy that actively supports, protects, and even repairs retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and the optic nerve.
