Memorable moments from the HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team journey at the 2024 1001VELACup Trophy in Trieste, Italy.

The 1001VELACup 2024 has come to a close. It was a challenging regatta week in the Gulf of Trieste, with rough and unpredictable weather conditions testing both the equipment and the skills of the skippers. Our student team HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team from the Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences faced multiple capsizes, which ultimately resulted in the failure of the rudder mount. Despite these setbacks, we are thrilled to have secured second place for Best Boat Design and an overall 8th place finish in the 1001VELACup Trophy. A heartfelt thank you to the 1001VELACup Association, Università degli Studi di Trieste, and the Yacht Club Adriaco for organizing the 17th edition of the 1001VELAcup Trophy. The 17th edition of the 1001VELAcup Trophy will be held from September 25th to 29th, 2024, in the Gulf of Trieste, Italy, with the participation of 11 international student teams. This year, the HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team from Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences will be at the starting line for the seventh time since 2017, competing with their self-designed and built sailboat. The 1001VELAcup (https://lnkd.in/eirU9g5W) is an international design and sailing competition for universities. One of its main objectives is to give international students the opportunity to develop, implement, and validate innovative ideas in the context of a practical, hands-on international competition. The focus is particularly on developing sustainable product design and manufacturing approaches based on the 3R principle: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We are eagerly anticipating an exciting and challenging three-day sailing regatta in the Gulf of Trieste, where student teams will demonstrate the performance of their self-designed and built sailboats.

HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team is preparing the Liftoff for the International Student Design and Sailing Challenges Foiling Foiling SuMoth Challenge Challenge and 1001VELACup. The HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team of Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences presenting the design of the new Foil Sailing Boat for the upcoming Foiling SuMoth Challenge 2024 on Lake Garda (Italy). This year 2024 the HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team is tackling two projects and two challenges: - Design and manufacturing of the new foil sailing boat for the upcoming Foiling SuMoth Challenge on Lake Garda (Italy). - Optimization of the design and material-use for the existing sailing boats for the upcoming 1001VELACup, which will take place in Trieste (Italy) from September 25th to 29th ,2024. We are looking forward to both challenges.

The HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team from Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences has started manufacturing the hull for the new sailing sailboat for the Foiling SuMoth Challenge 2024. The Foiling SuMoth Challenge is a student competition where the teams ultimate objective is to design, manufacture and sail the most sustainable and efficient foiling International Moth (IMCA). The HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team from the Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences visiting the Audace Sailing Team from the Università degli Studi di Trieste. The student teams conducted a workshop at the Università degli Studi di Trieste on the design and construction of sailboats using ecological design and manufacturing approaches. The HKA KM-Packaging Sailing Team and the Audace Sailing Team are members of the 1001VELA Cup Challenge and the Foiling SuMoth Challenge community.
