What happens when a racing champion steps into the world of high-tech electric mobility? 🌍🔋 Molly Taylor, Extreme E winner, took a deep dive into the E.ON Drive Testing Lab to see how we’re pushing the limits of EV technology. And spoiler: It’s more than just fast cars. At the TestingLab, Timo Feger and his team are testing chargers and energy solutions in extreme conditions – from -40°C to +60°C – to ensure they work anywhere. With charging power up to 2 megawatts, they are ready to power everything from family cars to electric trucks. Molly also stepped into our climate chamber to feel firsthand what it's like to test chargers in Arctic temperatures. It’s all about making sure our tech delivers – from the driveway to the highway. How big is the potential of bidirectional EVs in Germany? 🤔 A recent E.ON analysis reveals that the approximately 160,000 “bidi-ready” EVs on our roads could do much more than just drive. They could serve as flexible energy storage units and help stabilize the power grid. ⚡️ 👉 61 kWh average battery capacity 👉 60% of the battery could be used for bidirectional charging 👉 A single EV can power up to 11 households overnight 👉 Total potential: 5,500 MWh – enough to supply energy to 1,750,000 households between 5:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. What does this mean for the energy transition? EVs are not just eco-friendly means of transport; they are also key technologies for the decentralized energy system of the future. They can balance peak loads in the grid and store excess energy from renewable sources – contributing to grid stability and reducing CO₂ emissions. E.ON Drive is working on solutions to unlock this potential and make it a reality.
