📢 Regulatory Challenges for Companies and Managers New requirements for IT security, ESG regulations, constant scrutiny by NGOs – the increasing regulation poses a significant challenge for companies and their managers. To keep track, suitable compliance systems can help ensure that all legal requirements are met. If there is still a breach of regulations, fines may be imposed, and the question arises as to whether managers could be held liable. Key points: 👉 The new federal government will implement the NIS 2 Directive, which imposes stricter requirements for the IT security of companies. This includes regular security assessments and the implementation of robust security measures. 👉 Companies remain under the spotlight of NGOs and the public regarding ESG issues. 👉 Breaches of ESG regulations, such as greenwashing, can lead not only to reputational damage but also to claims from third parties. 👉 Authorities are also reviewing compliance with ESG regulations and can impose significant fines on companies and their managers. "I would advise everyone to be open about their disability." We are proud to share Silke Schürmann's story as part of the "This is Me" series. Silke is a provider management specialist at ITERGO. In August 2006, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), which has changed her life and brought with it various challenges in the workplace. In her video, Silke talks openly about her experiences. She says: "Living with a disability is certainly not always easy. And I don't want to sugar-coat it. There are certainly days and situations that are really bad. But I think it's important to maintain a certain level of self-confidence and not to be too hard on yourself. Nobody is perfect, and that's a good thing." Silke is an active member of the "inklusion@ergo" employee network. The network is a platform for people with disabilities, chronic illnesses and for people who work or live with ill or disabled people, as well as for carers. "I am involved in this network because I want to help other colleagues with my own experiences, but I am also curious to learn about other stories". What is your biggest challenge at work? For our dedicated Supply Manager, Silke Schürmann, it's navigating the long distances across the IT ERGO Düsseldorf campus. With the help of a scooter, supportive colleagues, and her unwavering positive outlook, she continues to make a significant impact. This was the question our Labour Director Dr. Lena Lindemann discussed with Herbert Fromme at the SZ-Versicherungstag. 🛡️ Competition for skills is not a myth or a sudden phenomenon – it is our daily reality. In the discussion, it became clear that competition for specific skills has been an issue for a long time – in the insurance industry and beyond. We are currently competing for profiles in Generative AI and data analysis, where we are in direct competition with large tech companies and technology consultancies. 🗨️ Demographic change and technological progress are intensifying the urgency of the shortage of skilled workers. Lena Lindemann emphasises: "Some of the causes are beyond our control. But many are not. It all starts with a new self-confidence in the insurance industry: no more feeling sorry for ourselves for being “dusty” and “unsexy”. Every day, I experience an industry with a high level of social relevance, innovative strength and future prospects. We make progress possible by taking on risks. An attractive work environment, appealing design, high functionality, different work areas for different work situations and, of course, comprehensive Wi-Fi and the latest technology throughout the building – the ERGO Center in Vienna is shining in new splendour after a one-year renovation phase. ✨ The new spatial concept is more than just a renovation – it is an expression of a cultural change at ERGO Austria. “The way we work has changed, so have the requirements in this regard”, says Achim Linsin from the organisational development department at ERGO Austria, who is responsible for the renovation. Previously, the seven-story building had a classic office structure with (closed) doors – today there is an open concept with about ten different modules. The interior design was the work of an interior designer with the involvement of the employees. The latter were included in relevant decisions such as the selection of furniture. The new premises are optimised for hybrid working. Workplaces are provided for around 65 per cent of the employees. “Corona is over, but mobile working remained”, says Achim Linsin. CEO Philipp Wassenberg's workstation is also located in the open space – this increases transparency. “We no longer have closed doors”, says Achim Linsin. "Living with a disability is different." We are truly honoured to share Álvaro Hermosa's story as part of the 'This is Me' series. Álvaro is a Spanish colleague and digital analyst at Grupo DKV. Following an accident at 18, Alvaro began using a wheelchair, but he has not let this define him or limit his potential. He embodies resilience and strength. 🦽 In the video, Álvaro talks openly about his experiences. He emphasises that living with a disability is different and that there are certainly things you might miss. But he sees his story as an inspiration for others facing similar challenges. At just over 20 years of age, being a mentor to a senior leader is a unique experience that four young employees had in 2024 as part of the pilot project for Reverse Mentoring. For the managers the experience was remarkable as well: they benefited from the fresh perspectives and technological affinity of the younger generation. 🤝 The Reverse Mentoring concept turns the traditional mentoring process on its head: younger employees from Generation Z (born between 1997 and 2012) take on the role of mentors for experienced leaders. The aim is to broaden the knowledge of the older generation to meet the demands of a rapidly changing work environment. The first four mentoring pairs were: Theo Kokkalas and Julia Quell, Astrid Whyte and Sophia Gerstl, Constantin Svoboda and Lara Stolle, Markus Bernhard and Marco Gibbins. Due to its success, Reverse Mentoring will be incorporated as a permanent element in the ERGO Mentoring programmes. Mentor Julia Quell: “I was genuinely surprised to see how similar our perspectives were, from work-related insights to life values.
