At our production facility in Kawerau, New Zealand, the annual CO₂ emissions have been reduced by two-thirds. Sid Takla, Managing Director of Essity Australasia, explains: “This has enabled us to reduce the carbon footprint by 66% since 2009 at the Kawerau production facility, including a 25% reduction with our new technology upgrade. Celebrating our Essity Barrier Breaker Award winners of 2024 🎉 In 2024, we received many fantastic nominations for the Essity Barrier Breaker Awards. Each initiative showcased how our employees are breaking barriers to well-being and contributing to better lives for individuals and communities around the world. Congratulations again to the winners in all four categories. They are: • The Essity Skin Tone Initiative, Health & Medical UK, for addressing the critical issue of skin tone bias in wound assessments, which often leads to misdiagnosis in patients with darker skin tones. Essity has set new clinical standards, improved health equity and created impactful resources like the Essity Skin Tone Tool and educational webinars. • The Mannheim Family Day Team, Germany, for inviting employees and their families and friends to explore the factory, driving the perception of Essity as leading hygiene and health company and an attractive employer for over 2,200 people in the Mannheim area. • The Fenix project, Converting Rolled Technology Global Supply Chain, for delivering a new technical innovation in Tissue production that did not exist before and managing to install it with excellent quality results and extremely low impact on overall machine losses. • The Veritas project, GBIS Professional Hygiene and BU Professional Hygiene, for making sustainability easier and more transparent for our customers in Professional Hygiene. The initiative is pioneering using AI tools to help develop the first Sustainability Chat bot to answer our customers’ key sustainability questions.
