For the first time LVMH is sponsoring athletes, marking a significant milestone for both the company and the Olympic Games. As former Nike CMO Greg Hoffman once said, "There is no bigger stage or moment in sports than the Olympic Games", underlining the importance of this platform for brands. Luxury has entered the arena Several well-known brands and designers are flexing their creative muscles. Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Lululemon, Ben Sherman, among others, are ensuring that their respective national teams not only perform well, but look good doing it.  As for the coveted medals, they will be designed and created by jeweller Chaumet, a first for the event. Newcomers make their mark 🔥 The 2024 Olympic Games are also a chance for emerging brands to shine. Left On Friday: In addition to Lululemon outfits for the Canadian teams, Left On Friday has designed for the volleyball team. Stephane Ashpool: The first independent designer to be hired by an Olympic committee, Ashpool is leading the apparel design for the French team. Why Don’t We See More 3D Printed Shoes? 🧐 3D printing in the footwear industry isn't new. From adidas to Prada Group, many brands have done it. Yet, if you visit a Foot Locker or SNIPES today, you'd struggle to find #3D #printed shoes on the shelves. So, apart from their often futuristic looks, what are the real advantages of 3D printing in footwear? 👉 Tailored Fit: 3D printing allows for a custom fit to each foot’s exact shape, ensuring unmatched comfort and support. 🦶 👉 Manufacture on Demand: This #ecofriendly solution reduces waste and overproduction, creating only what is needed. 🏭 👉 Low #Development Cost and Lead Time: Avoid the investment and lengthy process of opening expensive molds. 💶⏱️ 👉 #Monomaterial: Using a single material in 3D printing simplifies recycling, supporting footwear circularity goals. 🌱 👉 #Design Flexibility: Enables innovative and intricate designs that were previously unattainable. 👩🎨 👉 #Onshoring: Reduces the carbon footprint by bringing manufacturing back to the brands’ countries of origin. 🌍 So what’s stopping 3D printing from becoming more popular in footwear? 🤔 ❗ Material Performance and Variety: 3D printed constructions can't match some of the performances of traditionally built footwear. 🏃♀️ ❗ Slow and Costly Production: as of today, for large-scale productions, 3D printing is slower and less efficient than traditional mass production. 🐢 ❗ Expertise: 3D printing requires specialized experts that are often not as readily available. 🔬 There's surely space for 3D printing in footwear, whether for whole shoes, components, or specialized molds. However, the technology hasn’t reached full market maturity yet.
