🥁Robots with a sense of music!🎶 3 Franka robots conduct a symphony orchestra in #Dresden. The Dresden Symphony Orchestra is making music history: for the first time, they are being conducted by a #robot, the Franka Research 3 model. At the premiere of the program "Robot Symphony" in the Dresden Hellerau Festival Hall, the robots and musicians was in the perfect rhythm. Franka robotic arms are able to set different tempos for individual groups in the orchestra, which impressed the audience and earned a big round of applause! 👏🏻 This robotic-music project was brought to life by AI specialist Frank Fitzek from CeTI at the Technische Universität Dresden and the director of the Dresden Symphony Orchestra, Markus Rindt. Can robots make pottery? The Ropotter project proves they can! 🎨 Developed by researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Michigan - Uksang Y., Adam Hung, Jonathan Francis, Jean Oh, and Jeffrey Ichnowski Ph.D. - the RoPotter initiative focuses on teaching robots to manipulate deformable materials, such as pottery clay. Handling clay presents unique challenges for #robotics due to its complex, changing shapes and the occlusion of high-dimensional data. However, the Franka Research 3 robot is ideally equipped for this task, offering precise force control and adaptability to dynamic environments. By employing innovative techniques like 2D radial symmetry and mesh-based shape estimation, RoPotter enables the FR3 robot to effectively navigate the intricate process of pottery-making. Join us for the workshop titled "Robot Safety in Times of AI: Data, Decision, and Multimodal Interaction," led by our colleague Nico Mansfeld, Team Lead for Safety at Franka Robotics and other well-known researchers like Dr. Nader Rajaei, Dr. Achim J.
