The series "Faces of Fraunhofer IOF" introduces them: "Keeping at it is everything," says Julia Hengster. The physicist with a PhD is a keen athlete and recently completed her second long-distance triathlon. But also in her working life, Julia is involved in kind of a triathlon. She works at Fraunhofer IOF as a consultant for the institute's management, is the coordinator of the Max Planck School of Photonics and coordinates the site management of the Fraunhofer Research Center in Erfurt. Julia therefore knows too well that an iron stamina is not only needed in sports, but also in everyday working life between funding applications and strategy development. What drives her is the joy of discovery - including her own limits. In her “Faces of Fraunhofer IOF” portrait, Julia Hengster gives insight into her motivation and perseverance in sports as well as her working environment. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dqYqBjHs 📷 © Julia Hengster

Leading representatives from research, industry and start-ups came together at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI on October 17, 2024, for the ‘Forum for Quantum Communication in Germany’, organised by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung-funded QR.X, QuNET and SQuaD consortia. The aim was to highlight prospects for quantum communication in Germany and present concrete progress. The QuNET initiative demonstrated quantum-secure data transmission in Berlin's inner-city network, a possible approach for the secure transmission of personal data in digital government services. In order to promote exchange within the forum and to recognise the BMBF's pioneering funding strategy, an impulse paper https://lnkd.in/gk5TBwcQ on the topic of quantum communication was drawn up from within the research and industry ecosystem in the run-up to the forum and ceremoniously presented to the BMBF State Secretary Dr. Roland Philippi at the event. Fraunhofer IOF's contribution in this specific issue was the leading role in the Impulse paper by Dr. Torsten Siebert and the organisation of the event by Dr. Anja Milde in Kooperation with Fraunhofer HHI.
