Dive into action to preserve our oceans and marine life! 🌊
We’re really pleased to share that the sea is now a little freer of nets, thanks to Healthy Seas’ and Ghost Diving’s latest efforts at the HMS Perseus wreck.
Today we announce our continued support for another impactful project with our Gaming for the Climate partner dedicated to safeguarding marine biodiversity and ocean health.
During a focused 2-day mission, a skilled team of four divers collaborated to tackle the challenges at a submarine wreck. They successfully removed three hazardous nets in the Ionian Sea, Greece.
The Mission:
🐠 Recover ghost nets from the wreck and nearby reefs, which are hotspots for biodiversity but can become deadly traps for marine life.
🐠 Protect biodiversity and heritage by focusing on the wreck and the surrounding waters between Kefalonia and Zakynthos. Aiming to preserve marine life.
Why it matters:
🐢 Ghost nets, lost or abandoned fishing nets, often snag on shipwrecks and reefs, turning them into dangerous traps for marine creatures like sea turtles, dolphins, seals, birds and fish. Once entangled, they cannot escape. Healthy Seas’ efforts safeguard the biodiversity.
We are proud to be contributing to this mission, which makes a tangible difference with every dive, leading us toward oceans teeming with life and free of hazardous debris. 🐟
