The Science Education for Youth WG, led by Natisha Dukhi and Reem Abou Assi, is currently collaborating on a book for youth in science, covering SDG goals and cutting-edge information essential for future generations. Additionally, members are organizing workshops in schools of the Amazon forest, Brazil, as well as in the Middle East (Iraq), focusing on leadership in science and practical action on climate change. The group also welcomes collaboration on a mini-encyclopedia of academic entrepreneurship and colouring books for kids featuring stories of climate change heroes. What a great honour to engage in a meaningful dialogue on Trust in Science with the UN Scientific Advisory Board, the Deputy Secretary-General, and the Secretary-General. I’m truly inspired by their commitment to ensuring the human right to benefit from the safe and equitable development of science, and to harnessing its potential to address the most pressing global challenges. Thank you Global Young Academy, UN Scientific Advisory Board for this incredible opportunity and for giving #ECRs a central voice!
⚖️ The Scientific Advisory Board convened its first in-person retreat in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library at United Nations Headquarters. ⚖️ In dialogue with the Secretary-General, the Board debated urgent topics like impacts of climate science, biotechnology, and digital technology. The Deputy Secretary-General also met with the Board to discuss how science can help accelerate the achievement of #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. The GYA's Science Diplomacy in the Americas WG is currently developing partnerships and working to gain an understanding of science diplomacy initiatives in the Americas. In May 2024, the group held the GYA Science Diplomacy Forum, a pre-AGM event at The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. They also held a session to discuss the most effective ways to incorporate #ECRs in science diplomacy initiatives while collaborating with embassies. Please take the group’s survey on the landscape of science diplomacy in the Americas here: https://lnkd.in/eNEiKEgs Learn all about the Science Diplomacy in the Americas WG here: https://lnkd.in/eRNDi3k9

In complete support of the UN Scientific Advisory Board statement in #TrustinScience - What an honour that we #ECRs at the Global Young Academy were included in this initiative.
🤝 Trust in science is more crucial—and more contested—than ever in today’s global landscape. Out of the Board’s retreat comes something quietly significant: a Statement on Trust in Science. The Statement will backstop the Board’s efforts to make science more credible, more accessible, and accountable, laying the groundwork for a broader conversation about the role of expertise in addressing the planet’s most pressing challenges. 🔗 Read the Statement here: https://lnkd.in/dNVZz-UJ #UnitedNations #UNScientificAdvisoryBoard

Last week, we had a productive discussion during the GYA Executive Committee meeting, focusing on initiatives crucial for achieving the GYA's strategic goals. The meeting took place at the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences in Halle, Germany. The co-chairs and Executive Committee members, who bear overall responsibility for GYA activities, discussed several key points. These included preparations for the upcoming AGM in Hyderabad, India, improving the member selection criteria to ensure inclusiveness in science advancement, science policy, securing additional funding, restructuring working groups for long-term impact, and ensuring that spending aligns with the budget, with proper reporting for transparency. Additionally, we addressed the need for a crediting system to recognize active members and strategies to improve GYA's visibility and outreach. #GYA The meeting was followed by a formal dinner and networking session with officials from the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences. I had the opportunity to collaborate with the co-chairs dynamic Yensi, composed Chandra, Managing Director Beate, GYA office and other EC colleagues. It was an excellent learning experience, deepening my understanding of the organization’s operations, conflict resolution, and consensus-building. It truly feels like a place where young voices matter. #Sciencepolicy #sceincecommunication #SDGs Global Young Academy Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina
