The article concludes that "the GREAT results can help to develop better ATC strategies in the future, such as those which enable a smaller deviation from the aircraft’s optimal flight profile, or to keep the environmental impact of any ATM measures at a minimum." 👉 You can find a link to the article in the comments. #aviation #greenaviation #H2020Transport #CINEA_EU #climatechange #ATM #EU_H2020 #airtrafficmanagement #airtrafficcontrol
Info
- Optimized Flight Trajectories to limit the Climate Change across continents - The GreAT project is a European-Chinese Research and Innovation Action (H2020, GA N°875154) focusing on new strategies towards “greener” flight trajectories. This will be achieved by innovative air traffic guidance concepts and optimized routings near airports, in the terminal control area as well as during cruise flight. The concepts will consider various factors like atmospheric conditions and current airspace constraints. An intense air-ground data exchange is one of the pillars of this approach. In contrast to former optimization strategies, GreAT will not solely focus on efficiency and capacity. Instead its focal point is the reduction of aviation’s environmental impact, a crucial part of the future ATM. Led by DLR, the consortium consists of HungaroControl – Hungarian Air Navigation Services (Hungary), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM, Spain), L-UP (France), Royal Dutch Airlines (Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij; KLM, Netherlands), the Italian Aerospace Research Centre (Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali; CIRA, Italy), and Pildo Labs (Spain) on the European side. On the Chinese side, the Chinese Aeronautical Radio Electronics Research Institute (CARERI), the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC), the China Electronics Technology Avionics Company (CETCA), the Nanjing Research Institute of Electronic Engineering (NRIEE) and the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) are participating in GreAT GreAT is one of four projects investigating different strategies to counteract aviation’s impact on climate change. The three ‘sister’ projects CliMOP (GA No 875503), ACACIA (GA No 875036) and ALTERNATE (GA No 875538) started also in January 2020, aiming for an intense research exchange and collaboration with GreAT throughout their whole duration.
