Fueling Carbon Cycle

Info

www.greenlyte.tech GCT operates a low energy DAC approach to capture CO2 while generating hydrogen as a byproduct. The process consists of 3 main process steps. Absorption in a liquid, precipitation and desorption through alkaline electrolysis. The technology is based on 15 years of research with relevant patent applications filed and working prototypes. The company was founded as a university spin-out by 2 serial entrepreneurs and an experienced DAC researcher. Significant progress in our product development ⚙️ This week marks a pivotal milestone for our company as we have started test operations of our upscaled desorption system capable of operating with multiple electrolysis stacks. The lessons learned in the coming weeks and months will lay the technical foundation for the upcoming fully integrated DAC (absorption and desorption) plants that we are developing and building as part of the DAC-2-SNG and Deep Sky projects. Dr. Niklas Friederichsen 🌱🌎 Florian Hildebrand

🌟 I'm thrilled to share that we’ve reached a significant milestone at Greenlyte Carbon Technologies: this week, we have officially begun test operations of our upscaled desorption system. Using electrolysis to desorb the CO2 captured from the air during our absorption process, we're also producing the hydrogen required for downstream applications. 🎯 Our new system significantly reduces the energy needed per ton of CO2 captured, helping us move closer to our goal of lowering the cost of CO2 capture to below $100 per ton. 🌎 Additionally, this marks a pivotal step in our scaling journey, as this new design allows flexible adjustments to achieve a capacity of at least 2kt of CO2 and 40t of H2 per year. This innovation is a critical milestone in our DAC-2-SNG and Deep Sky projects, where our mission is to convert captured carbon and hydrogen into green fuels and achieve negative emissions. I’m incredibly proud of our team’s dedication and hard work in bringing this vision to life in such a short amount of time! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build Gen-3 of our absorption! 💪🏻🚀

Today, we're discussing the role of green fuels for the decarbonization of sectors that are especially difficult to abate, such as aviation, maritime shipping, steel or cement. As hard-to-abate industries are responsible for over 15% of global carbon dioxide emissions, significantly reducing these emissions is crucial to mitigating global warming and climate change. 🌍 Currently, minimizing the carbon footprint of these industries involves immense costs and high energy consumption, making it a significant challenge that must be addressed and overcome.  These difficulties emerge from the nature of the industry’s processes and for the transportation industries from the current lack of viable alternatives to fossil fuels. However, drop-in fuels such as e-kerosene, e-diesel, and e-gasoline offer a solution. They are compatible with existing refueling infrastructure and can be blended with petroleum-derived counterparts with limited constraints. How can we reduce costs to make green fuels affordable and how can we integrate green energy alternatives to meet the industries' energy needs? Integrating Greenlyte's DAC technology is the key to reducing green fuel costs and meeting industrial energy needs. Greenlyte captures CO2 and produces green hydrogen as a by-product via electrolysis, using only renewable energy in the process. Due to the co-production, which results in two output streams from the same input, fuel production costs will reduce. This approach of sustainably sourcing green components for fuel production reduces fossil fuel dependency, lowers emissions, and provides clean energy alternatives. 🌿 By leveraging innovative solutions like our DAC technology, we can drive the transformation needed in hard-to-abate industries, paving the way for a more sustainable and carbon-neutral future. 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀! To achieve the Paris Agreement goals and keep global warming below 2°C, it's imperative to remove carbon from the atmosphere. By 2050, our goal is to remove 100MT CO2 annually at below $100 per ton. Our innovative direct air capture technology simultaneously produces green carbon dioxide and hydrogen. This unique dual production in a single process is a game-changer for sustainability, opening multiple opportunities for producing green fuels and significantly reducing CO2 costs due to the 2-in-1 co-production advantage. Powered by renewable energy sources, our process can decouple its steps and operate only when natural energy is available, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact. 🌱 Putting in a collective effort with industrial and scientific partners like Deep Sky, Cella and Zentrum für BrennstoffzellenTechnik (ZBT) are crucial to achieving a carbon-negative future. By sharing expertise, experiences, and research, we can together develop solutions to tackle the current carbon surplus, which will continue to grow if we don't act now. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰-𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴! We are thrilled to announce significant progress on our DAC(H)-2-SNG plant. Last week, we visited the project location to discuss the start of construction! Annually, the integrated plants of Greenlyte and Zentrum für BrennstoffzellenTechnik (ZBT) will capture 40 tons of carbon dioxide from the air, produce 2.5 tons of hydrogen, and convert it into 5 tons of SNG - all with the help of renewable energy. Our plant will then be the first facility in Europe where direct air capture is fully integrated with the conversion to synthetic natural gas at a large demo scale. The plant is expected to be operational by the end of the year with full-scale operations commencing in Q1 2025. With our combined approach to delivering CO2 and H2 through one piece of equipment, we can significantly lower the costs and thus help our fuel partners (like ZBT) to produce affordable green fuels at scale. Furthermore, we are excited to announce Brusche Process Technology as our official EPC partner for our DAC(H)-2-SNG project and more to come. Brusche Process Technologies brings a wealth of experience in bringing sustainable process plants, such as power-to-liquid and waste-to-energy to life with many clients ranging from oil and gas or universities. We are proud to lead this project and eager to see how the insights gained will benefit future DAC(H)CU projects. 🌱 We thank the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Industrie, Klimaschutz und Energie des Landes NRW and the #EU for co-funding this initiative.
