Wie kann eine Stadt wie Stadt Frankfurt am Main den steigenden Wasserbedarf und die Herausforderungen des Klimawandels bewältigen? Das Projekt "Smartes Wassermanagement" der Stadt Frankfurt setzt auf Digitalisierung und innovative Technologien, um die Wasserversorgung zukunftssicher zu gestalten. In 4 Teilprojekten werden verschiedene smarte Ansätze erprobt, beispielsweise die digitale Überwachung der Wasserqualität und die Minimierung von Gifteinträgen in die Umwelt. Das ISOE unterstützt das Projekt durch wissenschaftliche Begleitung und Kommunikation, um Wissen an die städtischen Akteure zu vermitteln. Workshop for young scientists in Idstein on the topic of microplastics was a great success. As a young researcher, you must not only conduct high-quality research and publish your findings, but also learn how to compete in an international scientific environment and plan your own career. The “Microplastics Workshop for Early Career Researchers” in Idstein, Germany from 8 to 13 September offered the opportunity to work on your own professional development under the guidance of experts and to network with colleagues from 21 countries on all five continents. Over 70 young scientists with very different academic backgrounds came together to discuss the transdisciplinary research field of microplastics covering regulation, risk assessment, safe and sustainable by design plastics, citizen science, and AI application in research. Last week we spent a great time with early career researchers and experts in the field. Thanks again for the great contributions and discussions during this outstanding week. The "Water" conference is a really important event for us. It's organized every year by the Wasserchemische Gesellschaft, which is a specialist group of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). This year, we from the Institute for Analytical Research (IfAR) - Hochschule Fresenius were represented with three posters dealing with current research questions. These included: 1. What influence does the lifestyle of the population have on wastewater composition? This is a relevant topic in times of economic and social transformation! We're excited to share that we're expanding the classical approach of wastewater-based epidemiology. 2. We're also exploring how we can record the temporal dynamics of wastewater composition. Wastewater is complex, both in terms of quantity and composition. The substances entering the sewers are often short-lived and subject to rapid changes. To capture this, we tested a simple solution for wastewater sampling in two applications. 3. How can we simulate single particle ICP-MS analysis of nanoparticles in silico? The answer to this question would be really helpful for research and our students too!
