Ganze 67 % der Befragten planen am diesjährigen Black Friday einzukaufen – ein Anstieg von 8 % gegenüber 2023. Gleichzeitig fordern chinesische Marktplätze wie Temu und Shein zunehmend ihren Platz im Wettbewerb. Einblicke aus der Umfrage:  📈 Relevanz: Trotz wachsender Konkurrenz durch chinesische Plattformen ist der Aktionstag für die Mehrheit der Deutschen weiterhin relevant.  💸 Gezielte Käufe und Fokus auf Qualität: Über 57 % der Konsument:innen wollen gezielt Markenprodukte erwerben, während nur 15 % auf No-Name-Alternativen setzen. 💰 Budgetplanung auf Vorjahresniveau: Mit durchschnittlich 317 Euro pro Person bleibt das geplante Budget stabil. 📝 Strukturiertes Einkaufen: 80 % wissen genau, welches Produkt sie kaufen möchten; 79 % planen ihr Budget sorgfältig. Dabei vergleichen 84 % vorab die Preise bei verschiedenen Anbietern, um die besten Deals zu sichern. 📱 Soziale Medien und Vergleichsplattformen: Jede:r Sechste (17 %) nutzt Plattformen wie Instagram & TikTok zur Angebotssuche. Preisvergleichsseiten wie idealo werden von 35 % der Befragten genutzt. Each year, our idealo survival insurance supports a climate protection project that offsets 50% of our employees' emissions. For 2023, we've partnered with CarboCert to promote regenerative agriculture, leading to an offset of over 6,000 tons of CO2e. 🌱 To gain a deeper understanding of the project, our co-founder and member of the advisory board Albrecht von Sonntag and some members of our idealo team, alongside South Pole, a carbon finance consultancy, visited one of the farms involved in this project who implemented regenerative agriculture methods.  During our visit, we learned about sustainable farming practices and the vital role of humus in climate change mitigation. Soil can act as carbon sinks through the formation of humus. This fertile top layer of soil contains carbon that has previously been CO2, thus contributing to carbon sequestration. 🌟  Globally, soils are in poor condition, resulting in humus loss, reduced fertility and CO2 release. We are thrilled to announce that two of our Senior Machine Learning Engineers, Gunar Maiwald and Tobias Senst, will attend the IT-Tage 2024 of Informatik Aktuell - Fachmagazin in Frankfurt am Main on 10 December. 🙌 They will hold a session on "Testing ML-Ops: The Foundation for the Operation of Machine Learning" ("Testing ML-Ops: Das Fundament für den Betrieb von Machine Learning"), which will provide insights on testing ML systems in production environments. At idealo, as one of Europe’s leading price comparison platforms, we face the challenge of automatically cataloguing more than 1,5 billion offers from over 50,000 merchants. "At idealo, we've taken several steps over the years to increase the representation of women in leadership and technical roles." 💙  Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a WomenHack event at our office alongside Bonial Germany and Axel Springer National Media & Tech GmbH & Co. KG.  WomenHack is an organisation dedicated to promoting gender equality in technology. Through speed dating, attendees had the unique opportunity to meet various people, share insights, learn from each other and network. 🙌    Special thanks to Nicole Jänchen, Vice President Web, who introduced idealo at the event and shared our efforts to promote gender equality in the workplace.  Currently, 45% of our employees at all levels are women. Looking specifically at leadership positions, the figure is 42% – from team leaders to our Executive Board. But we are not stopping here. Today, it remains a cornerstone of our sustainability efforts – which have evolved a lot since then. Recently, we hosted our first Retail Summit, bringing together key players from the retail industry to exchange insights on consumer electronics. 💙 The event started with a warm welcome from our Managing Director, Jörn Rehse, followed by a keynote from Timo Wittkopf, Team Lead for Sales & Account Management, who shared his expertise on consumer electronics and idealo’s role in the market. Florian Kriegel, Team Lead for External Communication, then offered a deep dive into idealo’s users, while Darja Grauel, Project Manager of Local Merchants, explored user behavior, emerging trends, and product updates at idealo. We were also fortunate to have valuable contributions from our external speakers. Last week, Rishabh Budhiraja, Software Engineer at idealo, gave an insightful talk at the React Day Berlin Meetup on "Modernising a Complex Frontend Domain at idealo." 🙌  As one of Europe's largest price comparison sites, idealo faced challenges with one of the company's most complex frontend codebases, hindering team autonomy and slowing the development process for multiple teams. In late 2023, idealo began modernising its frontend with Astro and React, using a Micro Frontend pattern to give teams more ownership of their components.     The talk explored why this modernisation was necessary, highlighting the key requirements: speed, costs, and enabling decentralised development. 💻 The Proof-of-Concept (PoC) team chose Astro for its island architecture, server-side rendering, and "no JavaScript by default" approach to meet these needs. The PoC team developed a Decoupled Modular Frontend Solution that fosters team autonomy, domain-driven design, and faster delivery.💙 #idealo #idealolife #react #softwareengineering
