Together with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) has launched the fifth call for funding for the IKI Medium Grants. A maximum of 12 projects worth up to 8 million euros in public funding will be selected. A grant of between 300,000 and a maximum of 800,000 euros may be granted per project. Thematic priorities: The climate and biodiversity crisis has a significant impact on people's lives, working, and educational realities, affecting them in different ways. The opportunities to participate in decision-making processes therefore vary. This year´s funding call takes up these issues in order to realise untapped potential for climate and biodiversity conservation in a socially just way. With the thematic priority “Promotion of ambitious participatory measures for the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions“ the IKI supports ambitious participatory climate action measures that contribute to the achievement of greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets through needs-based capacity development and/or the piloting of innovative concepts in the mobility, urban development, and energy sectors or across sectors. Project should ensure a greater impact on all population groups through the targeted participation of previously underrepresented groups. The second thematic priority provides support for “Integrative measures for the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity in cities”. The funded projects serve the inclusive and integrative design and implementation of conservation measures that benefit all people and the natural environment through the development and use of biodiversity-friendly solutions. They contribute to the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Convention on Biological Diversity, while also enhancing the integrity and functionality of the ecosystems affected. Timeline: The selection procedure started on 15 October 2024 and the deadline for submission of outlines is 14 January 2025. The IKI Office of the Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH implements the IKI Medium Grants as an entrusted project management agency.

Info

Today at #COP16Colombia, the remarkable efforts undertaken by Indigenous and local communities in 45 countries under the ICCA Consortium COVID-19 response initiative are highlighted in a new publication. When COVID-19 brought the world to a grinding halt, the Small Grants Programme (SGP), funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP, in partnership with International Climate Initiative acted fast to support Indigenous Peoples & local communities to cope with the impacts of the pandemic. The Global Support Initiative to territories and areas conserved by Indigenous Peoples and local communities (ICCA-GSI) launched its COVID-19 response initiative in late 2020. This effort dealt with the socio-economic and health impacts of the pandemic through coping mechanisms and recovery measures, based on the self-determined priorities of Indigenous Peoples and local communities to address varied site-specific challenges. More than a record of project results, this product is a testament to the strength, ingenuity, and determination of Indigenous Peoples and local communities: https://ow.ly/Vy9t50TOZOC

🌍 Exciting progress on Pakistan's climate action journey! 🌱 We are excited to announce that the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Government of Pakistan has signed the Statement of Undertaking with the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG), an initiative by Germany to support long-term emission abatement of nitrous oxide (N₂O) from the nitric acid sector. With this agreement, Pakistan’s nitric acid producers are now eligible for a € 7 million grant to implement cutting-edge abatement technology and monitoring equipment. ✨ Key Impact: ✔️ Estimated emission reduction: 1.5 million tons CO₂eq per year - a significant leap towards meeting Pakistan's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 2021 targets under the Paris Agreement. 🌿 ✔️ NDC Target: 0.9% reduction in industrial emissions by 2030, which corresponds to a reduction of 0.2318 million tons CO₂eq in the Nitric Acid sector. ⬇️ ✔️ N2O emission cuts: 210% higher than the 2030 target, amounting to around 0.72 million tons CO₂eq. ⬆️ This is a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future for Pakistan. Together, we’re accelerating climate action! 💪 #RoadToCOP29 #COP29Azerbaijan #ClimateAction #ClimateEnergyDosti #NACAG #NDC #ParisAgreement Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action International Climate Initiative Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH KfW
