𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴! Whenever I ask someone which company was the first to bring a 1940nm diode laser for EVLA onto the market, no one would have expected it from iMS. Thereby it's often small, innovative companies that invent new solutions and even dare to go to the market.

Before this, lasers with 1940nm were built in small numbers and different techniques – larger, heavier and more complicated. Not suitable for commercial use. However, these devices can be seen as the predecessors of simLa® 6. In 2016, Dr. Michael Schubert - the founder of iMS Medical - got the idea to construct a simpler kind of laser, more compact, less complicated and affordable for actually every professional. Before this he spent many years in other companies investigating in the technique of 1940nm laser. When he started iMS one of the main complications were that main components of the construction kit were not available at that time like nowadays. As an expert in laser technology, Dr. Schubert found a way to develop and manufacture a diode laser module of compact size. That was the birth of simLa® 6, the first diode laser of 1940nm with its reliable, cost efficient and precise technique.

𝐄𝐕𝐋𝐀 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐅𝐀? As a manufacturer of laser devices, we tend to be biased in answering this question. If we just reflect the feedback we have received from users knowing both systems, the answer is mostly "It depends." The greatest asset for Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) systems is their simplicity in use combined with very good results. When it comes to the procedure itself, in real life, there don’t seem to be differences in procedure time and efficacy between RFA and EVLA. However, the feedback arguments for EndoVenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) that we regularly hear are: 1️⃣ Greater flexibility in use, especially with 1940nm, because of the lower energy input 2️⃣ Larger treatment scope (short segments; veins close to the skin, perforators...) 3️⃣ More flexible fibers and a much lower entry profile of up to 16G instead of a 6F/7F introducer These may not be all the points that play a role in the decision-making process...
