🚀 Energy storage: A milestone for calcium-oxygen batteries 🔋 #TUBraunschweig and its partners have taken an important step towards pioneering #battery concepts as part of the 'CaSaBatt' research project (Prof. Daniel Schröder)! Researchers have successfully tested the cell design and optimised electrolytes for calcium-oxygen batteries (CASB) in the laboratory. ⚡ The calcium-oxygen battery is emerging as a promising energy storage system. These innovative batteries offer 2.5 times the storage capacity of conventional lithium-ion batteries. The main objective of the project is to develop for the first time an electrically rechargeable CASB at laboratory scale (demonstrator). The results could form the basis for the development of next-generation rechargeable batteries for the consumer market, as well as for low-cost, large-scale energy storage. ℹ️ The ‘CaSaBatt’ project is funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung with a total of around 1.37 million euros. In addition to TU Braunschweig, the project partners are the Universität Münster, the Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), the Fraunhofer IFAM and IoLiTec Ionic Liquids Technologies GmbH.
