From intelligence & foresight to strategy and innovation towards the software defined vehicle: impressive journey and outcomes! 👚 Angelique Thummerer from TURNS delivered an inspiring presentation on the journey from sustainable sneakers to becoming the first B2B provider of circular economy solutions in the textile industry. Can AI come up with better ideas than humans? We put it to the test. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐱 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬—𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐈. See if you can spot the difference! 🧐 ITONICS recently ran an experiment at the WT Wearable Technologies Conference in California. We asked participants to generate ideas for wearable tech to improve elder care or mental creativity, while AI in our software did the same. Afterward, the ideas were anonymized and rated on ‘Desirability,’ ‘Viability,’ and ‘Feasibility.’ The goal? To see who came up with the best ideas—humans or AI. ❓𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐰 which three ideas you think were AI-generated. 𝐃) 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 that sustains human creativity by measuring behavior and adjusting lighting, music, fragrance, and oxygen levels accordingly. 𝐄) 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 that detect falls or unusual movements in real-time. Once a fall is detected, the device automatically alerts the caregiver and emergency services, ensuring immediate medical attention. 𝐅) 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 that provides an immersive environment designed to stimulate creativity, allowing users to manipulate their surroundings to suit their creative needs.

🚚 What innovations will help the logistics industry improve capacity management, last-mile delivery, or infrastructure limitations? From autonomous drones to smart dust, the logistics industry is on the way to reshaping future global supplies. This week, we thus focused on 𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 and topics like Neuromorphic Computing for Logistics, Swarm Robotics for Cargo Handling, Quantum Sensor Networks, Maglev Cargo Trains, and more. 📨Here are the most interesting weak signals we found: • Freight transport through magnetically levitated trains promises reduced friction, higher speeds, and lower energy costs for long-distance shipping. 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐯 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 have seen some increasing interest over the last 6 months. Noteworthy, China has successfully tested its new ultra-high-speed (UHS) maglev train, which can reach speeds up to 621 mph. The test also proved that it is possible to maintain a large vacuum inside the 2-kilometer-long low-vacuum tube. •𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 utilize bioengineering to create biodegradable packaging and smart materials. The trending topic shows an increase of 472,43 % since November last year. For instance, a joint research team successfully developed a sustainable, marine biodegradable, high-performance paper coating material, providing biodegradable packaging material with high performance without leaving microplastics. • Collaborative robots (swarms) that work together autonomously for cargo sorting, packing, and loading promise optimized processes and more efficiency. 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 is a trending topic and Researchers from Fraunhofer IML have demonstrated various smart robots that patrol autonomously through the warehouse, move pallets to their correct storage locations, or place parcels from Euro-pallets onto a conveyor belt. • Like bioengineering, 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 shows promises for optimizing packaging. Advanced materials with self-healing properties can prolong packaging lifespan, reduce waste, and enhance the durability of shipping containers. Earlier this year, the topic saw an increase in interest of about 417 % and continued its interest. The interest even further increased by 34 % between June and August.
