🔍 From the first innovations to today's Battery Thermal Management 🔍 Effective battery thermal management is crucial for ensuring the longevity, safety, and optimal performance of EV batteries. Recognized since the inception of battery technology, thermal management is a core element for battery functionality. ▶ Historical research reveals an early patent by William Anthony Shaw from 1882 (𝘜𝘚 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 266262A), who identified a correlation between temperature increase and reduced battery capacity during charging. Shaw's patented solution introduced a hollow tube, which is coated with or made from active material, and serves as an electrode in a battery. Cooling fluid can be pumped through the tube, to cool the electrode itself, as well as the liquid electrolyte. This early innovation is an example of the groundwork for more sophisticated thermal management solutions. As the EV market expands, efficient thermal management systems are becoming increasingly critical.
