🌿🌇 London's Highest Public Park: The Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street Opened in early 2015, the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street offers breathtaking views over London while setting new standards in sustainability and technical innovation. 🔧 Technical Masterpiece: Steel Structure: 34 complex structural steel arches made of nearly 1,000 tons of steel, each up to 63 meters long, form the roof of the 177-meter-tall office building. Photovoltaic Integration: 250 photovoltaic cells were integrated into the steel framing, supported by provisions for drainage, lighting, and façade access. Insulated Glass: Approximately 4,500 m² of cold-bent double glazed units were individually installed between the arches. 💡 Innovative Construction: The structure was designed in 3D with specialized software and directly used for CNC production without the need for fabrication drawings – a standard procedure at Gartner and throughout the Permasteelisa Group. 🌍 Sustainability Focus: The integration of photovoltaic modules supports the building's energy efficiency. The curved shape of the building optimizes the use of upper floors, maximizing available space and creating valuable floor areas. 🏙️ Architectural Highlight: Designed by Rafael Viñoly, the building widens as it rises from a narrow base, with the upper floors extending beyond the footprint. The Sky Garden crowns a tower that was executed by the Permasteelisa team in Italy with 28,000 m² of geometrically complex unified curtain walling. 8,000 sunshades installed on the south elevation, each with slightly different dimensions and geometries. Together with Dr. Fritz Gartner (Chairman of the Supervisory Board), Jürgen Wax (Executive General Manager), Leo Bunk (Works Council Chairman), and the respective supervisors, we honored 10 employees for 25, 40, and even 50 years of commitment to Josef Gartner GmbH. 🙌 Jürgen Wax shared a presentation highlighting Gartner’s projects from each joining year, along with remarkable economic, political, and cultural milestones. We are delighted to share the news that David Mueller has been appointed UK Sales Director for Gartner. With a background in façade engineering, David joined us 11 years ago as Sales Director for Switzerland. A Swiss national, David is based in Basel but will spend much of his time working in London. Permasteelisa Group currently has 25 live projects in the capital city, 11 of which are being delivered by Gartner. Grand opening of the new Roche pRED research center in Basel! 🎉 On September 10, the state-of-the-art Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) research center at its Basel headquarters was opened. This impressive center sets new standards for research and innovation! The new pRED Center includes two state-of-the-art laboratory towers (Buildings 6 and 7), which are 72 m and 114 m high respectively, an office building (Building 5) and a convention center (Building 4). Around 1,800 office and laboratory workstations on a total of 33 combined laboratory and office floors promote a new kind of collaboration to bring innovative medicines to patients faster. Gartner manufactured over 40,000 sqm of façades for buildings 4-7, including Closed Cavity Façades (CCF) with outstanding structural characteristics. The 600 mm deep construction with tripled insulating glass minimizes energy loss while also allowing plenty of daylight into the interior and providing excellent sound insulation. The low-maintenance sunshade in the cavity between the façades also ensures optimal comfort. We are proud to announce that one of our projects, the Mulva Cultural Center in De Pere, Wisconsin, has been awarded the prestigious Lerch Bates People's Choice Award at AIA Chicago Designight 2024. This new structure, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), features a custom external façade as steel stick system façade of steel-T-profiles with horizontal glass glazing joints, engineered and installed by Gartner. 425 Park Avenue is a 272 meter tall skyscraper in the heart of New York. Gartner has created an impressive entrance façade here: 15-metre-high solid steel columns clad in stainless steel, with no visible transoms. The glazing features a quadruple print pattern developed by Foster + Partners. The 1,500 m² entrance façade impresses with its transparency and depth, while at the same time offering privacy. Permasteelisa clad the tower with highly transparent aluminum panels with white glass, covering a total area of 35,700 sqm. 🌟 Ten years of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights! 🌟 Today we celebrate the tenth year since the opening of one of Canada's most important museums: the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, which opened on September 20, 2014. ✨ Project highlights: The museum is one of Canada's most important national museums and its architecture reflects the history of human rights and the Canadian landscape. Gartner formed complex geometries with steel façades and homogeneously appearing glass surfaces like a cloud and the wings of a dove of peace. 🚀 Our contribution: Gartner manufactured steel façades for the cloud with elements up to 80 m long and 15 m high, which meet special technical requirements in terms of statics, sealing and building physics. These complex forms, including the five overlapping glass wings of the “Garden of Contemplation”, required millimeter-precision. The geometry of these wings symbolizes the wings of a dove of peace, while the 100-meter-high tower represents hope. 🌿 Design & Sustainability: Working closely with the Architects Antoine Predock, Gartner developed innovative solutions to realize the complex structures while preserving the architectural appearance. Avoiding visible external fixings and developing a joint-free appearance for the glass surfaces was particularly challenging. The Cloud as well as the Tower comprise double glazed units with thermal coating. 🏛️ Historical significance: The museum stands at an iconic site where the Assiniboine and Red rivers converge. A warm welcome to our 13 new apprentices and dual students! 🎉 They started their training with us on September 1, including prospective construction mechanics, industrial clerks, technical system planners and dual students. With a total of 45 trainees and 12 dual students, our team is strong! The start was exciting: after a company presentation and games to get to know each other, we continued with exciting team games, lunch together and a tour of our showroom. The forest ropes course was also on the agenda – a perfect opportunity to get to know each other better. This was followed by workshops on 'New Work' and 'Trainee etiquette' as well as a safety briefing for our new recruits before they went to the workplace.
