KUMO, ABN AMRO and Vlinder issue Carbon-Secured Loan KUMO, ABN AMRO Bank N.V., and Mangrove project developer Vlinder completed a successful Proof of Concept (PoC) leveraging carbon credits to secure loans for working capital for sustainable development. The PoC focused on collateralizing both spot and forward carbon credits using KUMO’s technology. The innovation initiative – a spinoff of the ABN AMRO + Techstars Future of Finance Accelerator – proved that issuing carbon-backed loans can potentially reduce financial risks and lower costs associated with climate projects. Carbon credit-secured lending has the potential to unlock an estimated $10 Billion in dormant carbon credits and forward agreements on balance sheets. As the voluntary carbon market is projected to grow tenfold by 2030, developing a robust financial solution plays a pivotal role in steering the world towards sustainability. With excitement, I can now officially share that KUMO is part of the A&O Shearman Fuse 8 cohort. The Fuse program provides the ideal platform for pioneering carbon banking at the intersection of climate finance and tokenization technology. It enables us and our institutional finance partners to innovate with a client-centric approach and establish thought leadership in carbon banking. All 10 digital asset start-ups were nominated by tier-1 financial institutions, and I'm thankful for the support we've received from our trusted partners, like ABN AMRO Bank N.V.! In total, more than 230 start-ups participated in the Fuse selection process. During Fuse cohort 8, we'll jointly work with A&O Sherman on legal innovation at the intersection of carbon finance and digital asset technology. I look forward to sharing more during the summer. What I can already tell you is that our software can potentially reduce costs in structuring, issuing, and monitoring bonds composed of carbon-backed loans by 80%. Stay tuned and healthy! Along with other industry leaders such as Dr. Oliver Krause (gr33nBASE), Deniz Erkus, CFA (Leonie Hill Capital Private Limited), John Rogers (InvestConservation®), and Steven Haft (Consensys), they discussed ESG investing and token economy incentivization. During the panel, Johannes highlighted an interesting fact - there is an unbanked €10 billion carbon credit market.
